Teague? or . . . Lin?

Post#1 » by parson » Sat Jul 6, 2013 3:37 pm

Not a fan of Lin, however, if the choice is Lin for an average of $8.3 million or Teague for whatever, which would you choose?
How high can Teague's price go before you'd prefer Lin? And, if taking Lin is the price for getting Asik, does that change your choice?

I prefer Teague but I think anything over around $9 - $10 million makes Lin more attractive. I really want Asik, so . . .

Can the ASG pay Lin and Asik $30 million next year?
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I don't really care for Lin much either, and would prefer Teague up to around $10m annually. However, I'm really eager to get Asik myself, so if Houston refused to budge on including Lin, then I would have to consider it, taking into account the sweeteners in the deal. Although in that scenario, I would prefer to find a 3rd team who may have more interest in taking Lin.

I really don't care for Lin or Asik that much. I don't care for Teague much either. I would like to go after Nikola Pekovic and Jarrett Jack.. maybe work out a sign and trade with Golden State for Harrison Barnes and Jarrett Jack for Teague and Smoove

Neither of these PGs are long term solutions for ATL. Both would just be babysitters n til Schroeder is ready for the post.

Whoever is cheaper is fine by me.

I would prefer to have Teague and see if we can get Asik with josh. What are the chances Teague decides to play out his qualifier?

^Yahoo Sports reporting Teague is growing frustrated with lack of progress on a new deal.

The writing is on the wall: he is not a part of our long term plans. He is not our priority. His agent HAS to be out canvassing for offers at this point.

We drafted aPG and we are linked to Lin.

Teague wants us to make an offer, so he'll have something to show other teams and say, "Beat this." We're not going to do that. Instead, we'll let the market set the price. This is just like when Smith tried to sell himself the 1st time he went through free agency. Remember?

Indeed. It's telling that the only draftee we've gone out of our way to extend in the past decade...is Horford.

But that would be stupid to make an offer now, because if he accepts the offer, we get less room.
He has to understand that ATL has to spend all the room before signing him, because we can offer him what we want even if we are at the cap, we have bird rights on him.

He should even understand that if he has no offer yet, it certainly means that he's valued at more than his cap hold, so more than 6M/yr. If they thought he was worth less than his cap hold, he would already have an offer because if he accept it, his cap hold would be the new salary so less than the actual cap hold.

Signing him now would hurt the team, it's stupid.

Teague is far better than Lin, and I'm as big a Lin fanboy as you'll find.

As for Teague's contract, the market is awash with Good PGs. It makes sense to make him find an offer first from a business standpoint.
