Highest paid players in the NBA

Post#1 » by mindbender » Sat Jul 6, 2013 10:56 pm

Josh Smith at $13.5m/yr with career avgs 15.3 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 3.2 apg and 2.1bpg

His stats are basically a poor mans LeBron.. but the final judgement comes down to you. So do you think hes overpaid or not? If you say yes, tell me how much he should be worth, and comparable players that put up the same numbers at a cheaper rate.

Here is the link for the highest paid players in the NBA: http://www.hoopsworld.com/nbas-top-50-h ... id-players

Take your time, think through it then comment

We definitely got a bargain IMO. He's a better all around defender than Lebron, but doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves because...well he's not Lebron. You have to also take into account this is his 3rd contract. He's getting paid less than a max player coming off his Rookie contract.

Agreed. And somehow people are willing to take Gays contract rather than signing Smoove. After all that talk about the max $, this would have to be the time we need to credit Joe Dumars for letting Smoove know hes worth is not as much as he thinks. A successful lowball offer

If you look purely at the player and the money he's making there is nothing outrageous about the deal.

Its just that in terms of how much he helps with this team I think its not worthwhile.

Really the only thing he doesn't bring is great shooting. We needed defense on the perimeter. He brings that. We need defense on the interior. He brings that.

Who knows? Maybe this is Joe's way of ''stockpiling assets''. If that was the case, he'd be a really great trade chip in way to a blockbuster trade in 2 years. I'm not complaining at all.

Considering the company in that pay range, it's not a bad deal at all.

Good post.

To Smith's credit, he's an underrated passer. 4+ assist average is nothing to scoff at for a big man.

I watched some clips, he ran the pick and roll pretty well with Horford. I can see him tossing some lobs to Dre.

The contract is very fair for both parties. Now lets invest in the best shooting coach and sign him up to work with Smith. If Smith could consistently shoot the guys unstoppable. There is still time to develop a shot.

Is he overpaid?

Based on what other players of his calibre get he's in the ball park

Credit Joe for getting for to sign for less than the MAX. Like it or not we didn't really overpay...

The question of fit is what stops this from being a home run signing... but are we so jaded that we're against signing an All-Star calibre forward?

I don't think that we have overpaid when you look at that list, but I'm still not overly happy with the signing. Time to be optimistic I guess.

Luckily Joe didn't jump the gun this time, he didn't offer any money in the first day of free agency so had a chance to see his real value.

If he can get his 3pt shooting up to 35%, he'll be fine at SF. Also, yes, a lot of us are probably jaded.

There was speculation that he was looking for a max deal, somewhere between $16M and up.

Based on daunting speculation, he's a steal.

Based on what he'll be asked to do here? Overpaid.

I see Iggy @ $11M. I would have overpaid for that man.

OK, Hoopsworld has updated Pistons' salary list. I don't know their sources but if its correct here is what Josh gets:

13-14: $13,000,000
14-15: $13,585,000
15-16: $14,170,000
16-17: $14,755,000

Total: $55,510,000

And yet a team with his former coach didn't even make an offer after their meeting. Hmmm.

In regards to the Pistons, I don't believe they made an offer to anyone in the past week prior to Dwight's signing. His effect on FA were like dominoes for everyone else.

I believe Joe had Smith and Iggy 1 and 2 on his board and told the latter that he would wait and see what Smith gets in the market before making any offers.

I think Dumars overvalues hybrid forwards.
