Because we shot the basketball like absolutely crap and don't say that it had something to do with the Pacers defense either, because it really didn't.
We missed wide open jump shots that we had been knocking in all year long.
Simple as that.
So shot the ball like crap against the best defensive team in the league, yet it wasn't because of their defense.
Here's what the Pacers did. They gave up the midrange area, and had Hibbert sag off into the paint. This caused JR, Felton, Prigs, and just about every NY player to start taking difficult floaters and tricky midrange shots. The Knicks also struggled to drive due to Hibbert, and had several plays break down due to the Pacers fighting through screens very well.
Knicks' offense also revolved around plenty of stupid shots, including a bunch of semi-contest to contested Melo and JR midrange shots. The Knicks needed to move the ball around more, but settled for isolations.
Yeah the Knicks missed open shots, but every team does. The Pacers missed plenty of easy shots, too. The problem on offense was a lack of ball movement, which has always plagued the Knicks. I'm pretty sure they were one of the worst assisting teams in the regular season.
The Knicks needed more ball movement, and needed to make the right pass when the Pacers D collapsed on pick and rolls. This is easier said than done, considering how good the Pacers D is, and chances are, they won't always get open looks. However, they'll get a hell of a lot more looks moving the ball around than settling for isolations.
