Shi Davidi ‏@ShiDavidi 8h
#BlueJays looking to move forward in talks with 1st-rd pick Phil Bickford this week. They're getting closer with 2nd-rd pick Clinton Hollon

This at least gives us a little bit more than we've been hearing, sounds promising

We are the only team that has not signed their 2nd round pick. Doesn't sound good or bad. We can easily sign those two but most of us are hoping we would have money left for another top player.

We are now $1,305,020 under budget.

Have three college seniors left in top 10 rds too. May get Brentz & Tellez. @tercet86: can the #bluejays afford rowdy tellez now? #mlbdraft

Huge news. If everything plays out as it should; this realistically puts at least two of Brentz, Lauer, Tewes, and Tellez as signable.

The bad news is that our second-rounder has UCL issues, of course, and thus might require Tommy John. That said, I suppose that there are worse things than a teenager needing TJ, especially if it allows us to get an extra high-ceiling kid.

Although, that bad news would be hugely offset if we get a '2nd Rd Talent' to sign because of the savings. Just think of Brentz and Hollon flipping rounds.

No disagreement; if a pitcher is going to have the surgery, at the beginning of their pro career -- when they're very young, and under the supervision of the medical staff -- is probably the best time. Just sucks that the trigger for our good fortune is that he'll likely miss a year, and he just saw $800k+ evaporate as a result.

I read online somewhere that he doesn't exactly come from a wealthy family either. I'm sure even though he saw the $800k evaporate, he was prepared to take the guaranteed half million and help out his family.

2nd rounder Hollon signed for $ 467,200 as per Shi Davidi $701,000 under slot value, now gives us around $1.3 million for the tough signs in later rounds

This is the best table to use imo, as it not only shows the bonus but also the slot and the difference. Credit to GC for the original link several pages back...

m Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 1m
#BlueJays, 6th-rder Matt Boyd agree on $75k. Oregon State senior LHP, legit 6th-rd talent, mixes 4 pitches, touched 96 mph on Cape #mlbdraft

Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 1m
#BlueJays have now saved MLB-high $1,773,520 vs. bonus pool in 1st 10 rds. Can go another $319,910 over pool w/o losing pick. #mlbdraft

Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 1m
Have tweeted this a few times already: #BlueJays positioning themselves to land Bickford (1st rd), Brentz (11th), Tellez (30th). #mlbdraft

Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 4m
I think 2nd-rd $. @landobeauty: Jim how much will it take to lure Rowdy Tellez from USC? Would be good power bat for #bluejays. #mlbdraft

Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 5m
College sr, not a ton of leverage, could have waited past deadline but didn't. @dcameronfg: So why'd Boyd sign for $75K? #mlbdraft #BlueJays

If Bickford signs for slot, we effectively have $2.29m for the two of them, when taking into account the 5% taxed wiggle room and the $100k allotment for each. That would mean the ability to pay both of them the equivalent of the slot money for our second rounder. Increasingly liking the chances of getting both...have to imagine that turning down numbers gets somewhat more difficult with the addition of that sixth zero.

Tellez will still be tough. He gave an interview in June, before the draft, in which he really sounded as if getting his USC education was a factor and that he was looking well beyond the draft ratings in determining his personal "slot". I drew from that that he believes going to USC will turn him into a fairly high first rounder. He may think too much of himself. But In I hope he signs with us... a guy named Rowdy Telluz has a major league name and is a sure bet to make it on karma alone. Either that or NASCAR.

As for Bickford, can AA afford not to sign him after whiffing on Tyler Beade two years ago? Doesn't look good to not sign two first rounders in three years. Yes, you get the comp pick, but lose a year of development and the casual fans aren't going to understand it.

Two more "official" announcements, but the above chart already had booked them as signed
John Lott ‏@LottOnBaseball 4m
#BlueJays announce signings of 8th-9th rounders, RHP Kendall Graveman-LHP Chad Girodo. No word on top pick, RHP Phil Bickford.

I wonder if these going "official" means there's been progress with Bickford... I thought there was a chance AA was keeping a few of these under-slot signings quiet so Bickford's agent wouldn't know exactly how much of the bonus pool was still available... that said, probably everyone would have guessed these 2 guys were signing for peanuts....

Kris Bryant signed with the Cubs for slot - $6.7m. So three first rounders still unsigned.
