Of course Devin Harris had a great on/off last year, the guy behind him was Donald Sloan who is garbo.
After consulting my own VORP ratings, it seems like I was a bit off though. I have Millsap rated HIGHER than Smith overall, while the gap between Monta and Harris is not as big as I anticipated. I still think 44 wins sounds reasonable.

Re: Monta Ellis?
Looking back, I wanted us to draft Monta, so I would be thrilled if we signed him, but it depends on the money.

Re: Monta Ellis?
How long would we have to keep Ellis before we could trade him to HOU for Asik? Dec. 15, right?
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

No.
Absolutely not. You make up a lot of nonsense. But there's no way you can tell me Donald Sloan was the primary backup at PG/SG all season.

Seems more likely we'd have to trade Milsap for Asik as they already have a SG and primary ballhandler in Harden.
They do (would) have a hole at PF. Milsap would fit well next to Howard.

Yeah, as if John Jenkins or Stevenson were quality players last season. After Lou Will went down Harris's minutes per game skyrocketed since he now was starting, and behind him was nothing but scrubs.
But you're right thought, I mean Shelvin Mack and not Donald Sloan.

Yet Mack only played in about 1/3 of Atlanta's games....

Re: Monta Ellis?
Reading the tea leaves here, this really looks like it's going to happen. The other suitor in the running, DEN, just added JJ Hickson for a number that really couldn't be supported if they use their cap room to sign Ellis (as was projected with them trying to find a suitor for Andre Miller). The only other team that I can find with any reported interested was NYK and they simply don't have any room.
Can't say that I like it at all, but it is what it is. We will soon officially have replaced Josh Smith with a guy who is, at best, a similar 3PT shooter and a higher propensity for jacking them up. Also, I can't have put things better than this tweet by @LangGreen on twitter:
Lineup:
PG: Teague (resigned) / Mack / L Williams (inj) / Schroeder*
SG: Ellis / Jenkins / L Williams (inj)
SF: Korver / DeMarre Carroll
PF: Millsap / Scott
C: Horford / Muscala / Nogueira*
*=we have their draft rights, but nothing is saying we'll bring them over immediately
That looks like a 10-12 overall pick team... gonna be a long season.

Sure, we seen that we'll take risks on talented bigs (e.g., Howard and, to a lesser extent, Nogueira), but this one hurts.I think Monta Ellis is an extremely talented, but when Danny Ferry talks "culture" I don't think of him being the vision. But he is talented
Agreed. I was so excited that both Monta and L Williams were available that I could hardly contain my excitement. When Salim Stoudemire was named, I was so disappointed. Along with the handling of the Marvin vs PGs in the 1st, I really think that this was the night when it really sank in that Knight was simply in over his head, and if we were going to win, it'd have to be in spite of him.HMFFL wrote:Looking back, I wanted us to draft Monta, so I would be thrilled if we signed him, but it depends on the money.
Depends on the 1st year salary, but around $10M probably means we're done. We would however still hold Teague's RFA rights, have the Room MLE, and can sign vet mini guys of course.WiscoKing13 wrote:its been reported that its a 10 mil per year. I'm nothing if not persistent.
