I know many may not agree but the more I think about it the more I'm convinced that the best way for Oladipo to both succeed as a player and help this team is to play the point guard spot. Here is why:

Pro:
Mindset: Dipo by nature is not a pure scorer and will not be in my estimation. He is very unselfish, a willing passer, and seeks to impact the game in a variety of ways. This to me says making him a two guard could limit his effectiveness. At the point. He could pick his spots to score, but be focused on using his athleticism to get into the lane and create plays for other.

Size: Dipo is big enough to play the two guard, but his height and size don't make him stand out there. At the point guard spot he would be a terror for opposing point guards. Offensively his height makes him see the floor better to make passes, and defensively he could smoother smaller point guards.

Defense: This to me is where switching Dipo to Point guard really pays off. Watching the game yesterday it was amazing how disruptive he was while guarding the other teams point guard. He would routinely get his hands on passes and just make it difficult for other teams to get into offensive sets. I envisioned a back court of Dipo, harkless and Harris causing havoc against other teams.

Cons:
Ball handling and passing: For most this is the deal breaker for Dipo being moved to full time point guard. While his handles are above average for a 2 guard he does not have elite ball skills of a point guard. While. I think he can get better, don't think he will have killer handles. He is a willing passer, but not a very good passer or has great vision. I believe passing skills such as the type Rubio displays are instinctive but in the past 6-7 years we have seen The point guard position evolve. Many of the top point guards are not instinctual passers, but incredible athletes who can get it to the lane at will and make plays. I believe Oladipo can be that type.

In addition, many point guards are not the primary ball handlers but rather the secondary ball handler and often play off the ball on offense. My point being to help facilitate the offense we could pair Dipo with a wing with point guard skills much like we had with Hedo facilitating the offense and Jameer playing off the ball. I could see Dipo giving us 15-18 points 6 assists, 6 rebounds 3 steals and disruptive defense from the point guard spot.

SERIOUSLY how many big men make this kind of pass around the 1:05 mark?... :o

Lol bro, you're massively overrating KOQ's passing skills. His first pass in that clip is nice. But the pass around 1:05, not so much. Tobias was standing right in front of him. All KOQ did was bounce pass it to him.

He's not overrating his passing skills. Kyle is a very good passer for a big man and there actually aren't many with his vision.

Why does Chris Brossard still have a job? The guy was reaching the whole time with the Dwight rumors, just saying stuff to not be left behind.

You question assumes that ESPN is an entity with journalistic integrity. It's a rumor mill...he'll probably get a pay raise.

Or we can stop pretending he's a PG and just get a real PG either through the draft or free agency.

I actually like the idea of him being our PG for next year. I don't think he has the PG skills to be there down the road but I like the idea of him playing it for one year, ala Wade/Lebron.

We have a ton of young prospects but none at the PG position. Why not let him play PG for one year so he can develop the weakest parts of his game, dribbling and passing, then we can let other guys like Mo play the 2 guard. I think next year is our make or break year. We NEED to be completely bad next year to win the lottery. We also need to see which young guys we want to move forward with. Having Dipo play PG gives us the best chance at tanking AND developing all the young guys.

After the year we will know if a few things.
1. Will Dipo be our PG for the future
2. Will Mo work out as our SG
3. Will Harris work out as a SF or PF
4. Will AN work out as a starting PF or bench player
5. With knowing those things, it will help in the draft big time.

BTW What PG are you talking about trading for or signing? There are NONE available that fits the youth movement we are going for, I don't want to spend a ton of money/assets on another average guard.

If he can contribute 18/6/6 from ANY position he would immediately be an elite player. I'd love to see it but that seems pretty optimistic.

He isnt starting the year at PG. I think thats clear. But there is no harm in having him play the position and initiate the offense when Jameer goes to the bench. Best case scenario, he takes over the job next year. Worst case, he stays at SG but has developed real time experience and has sharpened his passing skills. We are not going to be good next year anyway.

I agree. I'd want him to start next to Jameer and take over point guard duties when he goes to the bench. I would love to see the Oladipo/HArkless/Harris line up with Dipo running point.

Why not, we really don't have any better options for backup pg, and we dont badly need to win either
