It looks a little on the high on an annual salary perspective, but limiting the deal to 2 years was very wise.
That deal would have fit in an Ariza S&T
For Atlanta that would mean that Josh Smith is on the move. S&T to houston for Osik?
Once Utah renounced Millsap, the couldn't S&T him. They renounced him so they could clear more cap space so they could make their tanktastic trade with Golden State.
Well, reverse engineering things, had we come hard and heavy earlier, it well might have been in their interests to not renounce Millsap, especially as we saw that they were feeling gutter friendly.
Something along the lines of:
WAS OUT/UTH IN: Ariza, Vesely, Booker, and some sort of pick
UTH OUT/WAS IN: Millsap & Marvin Williams (out till Christmas at least)
I believe they would have still been able to pull off the trade as that doesn't have them taking back that much extra salary (about half of PM's cap hold).
http://storytellerscontracts.info/?page_id=1508It might've been possible to work into that trade as a 3-way too.
I think we basically just weren't interested, which is......well then....moving on.
As of now, it looks like we're counting on one of Ernie's Kids having at least a mini break out, which is.....not my absolute favorite plan as we're undercutting the solid pieces on the roster unnecessarily with only marginal upside (though it's obvious listening to the recent discussion that I'm not as down on Seraphin as some). I guess it's an OK strategy if there's something specific we plan on doing next summer with cap space.
