Wiretap = Kings trying to Clear Space for Ellis

Post#1 » by Pharaoh » Mon Jul 8, 2013 1:29 pm

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... onta-Ellis

Jimmer Fredette and Chuck Hayes...

Jimmer makes approx $2.5 mil, Hayes approx $5.7 per

Not really interested in either but...

Would they give us Thornton for Stuckey if we took Hayes and Fredette?

Do we actually have the cap room to take Fredette and Hayes?

Who is the resident cap guru on this board now?

And while looking at their roster... Toney Douglas is a free agent... any interest in him at all?

It would be close-ish in terms of numbers, but it would ruin any flexibility we might have next year. Is Thorton really worth 16 million this year and even more next?

The only way I'd do a salary dump for the Kings is if it includes a KCP for McLemore swap. And yes, I'm still bitter.

Could Jimmer be a three point assassin type?

I love KCP, but what you're saying does sound intriguing, I must admit...

I don't think a KCP/McLemore swap makes sense now. You don't do that. I don't mind a salary dump but you gotta get picks to do it. Look what Golden State had to do to move bad deals. I'd want 1 2014 pick unprotected if I took on Hayes. I'd do Hayes and Jimmer plus a 2014 pick for English. We need a guy who could play back-up C.

We have a backup center, his name is Greg Monroe. I'd swap KCP for McLemore without thinking twice.

It would indeed be kind of weird for both teams after committing to their pick in the first place. Did a trade like this (trading between two close picks after a couple of weeks) ever happen in recent NBA history?

I don't mind giving Jimmer a chance.

Foye for Roy, Carter for Jamison, Dirk for Tractor Traylor, Webber for Penny, Love for Mayo off the top of my head, though depending n your definition of recent some likely don't count.

I'm not a Jimmer fan. He's not a pg and he can't guard either guard position.

I think Greg plays exclusively at PF this year. At least 30 minutes a game there so it tells me we need one regardless. DNP-CV isn't a back-up C despite what Frank might tell you.

How about Jerebko/KCP for Thornton/McLemore/Outlaw?

Saves them about $7.5 million instantly.

Smith-Monroe-Drummond may be effective for snippets of games but I don't imagine we'll see 30 minutes of it as its just too limiting space wise. I expect we'll see a lot of Smith-Monroe/Drummond 4-5 pairings.

McLemore for KCP isn't even worth musing about because it won't happen.

Why would we want Thornton? He is a solid shooter but not great, is on a pretty expensive contract and only play 1 position SG meaning he would take KCP minutes and while KCP is a far inferior player right now, once he develops he will be a much better fit than Thornton.

At the top of it you want to blow all our cap space in the likes of Chuck Hayes and Jimmy Fredette? You can't be serious.

That's kind of my point. I don't see any reason to help the Kings unless we get the guy we (at least I) really wanted in the draft. Scratch my back and I'll scratch yours but I'm not going to just take your garbage out because you said please.

just throwing out names at this point vege

Hayes is a big we could use and Jimmer does nothing but shoot 3's...

the idea of getting McLemore or a heavily protected pick (like got from Vancouver) occured to me though. I don't see the Kings making the playoffs anytime soon so:

2014 = lotto protected
2015 = top 8 protected
2016 = top 3 protected
2017 = #1 protected

by then we'd have Drummond and Monroe on huge contracts...

For me i'd only consider a top 3 protected pick at most. Hayes for 6 mill next year scares me. CVish territory.

The Kings owe a similar pick to the Cavs from the Casspi-Hickson deal. I'm pretty sure it's set up so the next time the Kings make the playoffs the Cavs get their 1st until it eventually turns into a 2nd.
