This is my plan to make Pistons a playoff team.
I think Joe D has done a solid job so far – drafting KCP(although I preferred MCW), Mitchell (who I was really down on) and Siva (solid for #56). Ive grown to love the idea of Smith as well but there are a few things we need to round out the roster and that is a backup PG and shooters.
1) 3 Team Trade- Det/Bos/MN
Detroit trades: Stuckey and receives Ridnour, Lee
Boston trades: Lee, Crawford, 2014 2nd and receives Stuckey
MN trades Ridnour and receives Crawford
2) Trade Kyle Singler to Memphis for Willie Reed/2014 Lottery Protected First
I think Singler is solid and would look ten times better on a playoff team. I want to move him simply because I prefer Middleton and think we could get a late first for Singler. Reed isn’t fully guaranteed so he can be cut.
3). Call me crazy, but I want Daye back for the vets min- he has exactly 1 skill and it happens to be something that we desperately need on the wing- shooting. He’s a career 41% shooter from deep.
2013-2014 Detroit Pistons
Brandon Knight/Luke Ridnour/Peyton Siva
Courtney Lee/Kentavious Caldwell-Pope/Kim English
Josh Smith/Khris Middleton/Austin Daye
Greg Monroe/Charlie V/Tony Mitchell/Jonas Jerebko
Andre Drummond/Slava Kravstov
Shooters: Knight(38%3pt), Lee (38%3pt), Ridnour (35%3pt), Daye (41%3pt), CV (35%3pt), KCP and Middleton also project to be good shooters from 3pt land.
I think this plan takes us into the playoffs next season and it also gets us into the 2014 draft

You're crazy!!
Seriously though, Daye isn't coming back.
I can't see boston taking that trade, but i like the idea of bringing in ridnour.
If we can unload stuckey and bring in Ridnour and follow through on the rumored ellington signing, we'd have a lot of shooting.

Crazyy. Daye is gone lol but it does make sense, he is an excellent shooter.
I would do some tweaks. Ridnour would easily start over Knight and I don't think Siva and English deserve a spot in our roster.
I'd rather roll the dice on talented guys at the end of our bench. I'd take Wes Johnson over English and would take D.J. Augustine over Siva and those are both minimum salary players.
And I would still try to acquire a legit PG. Jeff Teague would be my target if it's not possible I would go after Mo Williams.
I would also cut Minny and trade Stuckey for Lee and Crawford instead of help Minny and lose possible raw cap space without being compensate properly.

I would cut English and keep Singler over signing Daye. I don't think Memphis give a 1st for Kyle anyways.
Other than that, I could live with that roster. Probably a low seeded playoff team.

Re: Pops Playoff Plan
If a guy like Chase Buddinger can fetch the 18th pick then I see no reason why Singler couldn't fetch a similar pick. A lot of times teams are willing to sell their mid twenties pick anyway. Memphis needs to get better and they need shooting, they are over the cap so I can set them making this type of deal.
Also Vege, Pistons are sending out 8.5 mill in the Bos/Mn trade and taking back 9.5 so its not like we are losing a lot of capspace and by trading Singler it's a wash any way. We'd still have around 7 mill to spend in FA.

We could be getting more cap space. We are taking on unnecessary unwanted salary taking on Ridnour without being compensate for it.

Few problems with the Memphis deal:
A) Budinger in 2011-12 was a MUCH better player than Singler last year. Better shooter, better athlete, better defender, better passer, better rebounder. Bud had a PER of 15, which is good for a 3D guy. Bud also had twice the amount of win shares per minute than Singler. And he's a very good athlete.
B) Singler didn't have a good season last year by any measure, and he certainly wasn't a very good shooter. He had a few good weeks and then he was pretty bad. Singler's PER was 10, which puts him at very-end-of-the-roster level. His TS% was .517, which sucks for a shooter whose not good at anything else (Bud's was .556 in 2011-2). He also has really limited upside. And he's already 25.
C) Bud also made less than a million bucks per season, which made him about the cheapest guy playing at starting-caliber level in the whole league. The equivalent this offseason would be Jimmy Butler, who's proved he's a solid 3D guy and barely make the league minimum.
D) Teams nowadays only sell very late firsts, like 25-30. Most of the time, it's because they don't want to give a roster spot for several years to an unproven guy. Singler is signed for two more seasons, as long as a first rounder... and he makes more than a late first rounder would.
