Management's Best FA Signing

I don't think it's fair to overly criticize management for not signing enough role players.

Couldn't disagree with you more my friend.

This is my biggest ctriticism of the FO.

Unlike guys like Jerry Krause in Chicago, Pop in SA, and Jerry West here, this FO has NEVER really had their finger on the pulse of what subtle moves needed to be met in order to just adaquately fill a team need.

The Derek Fisher signing out of Utah was golden , but that was gift wrapped.

Now that I really think about it, Kupchak and Co. best value signing was probably Smush Parker. Think about that for a moment.

NOONE was more productive than Smush Parker for less money.

Call him what you want, but he was a great, great signing.

But can they ever (besides Barnes, Smush, and Jamison) see a need and go fill it for pennies.

It's definitely a skill, a skill Kupchak & Co. just don't have.

Pop's got it (Bonner, Neal, D.Green, etc.).

The Lakers are way below average and it's really unfortunate because success is in the small details.

It sounds crazy, but we need more Smush Parkers ... and they're out there.

Hell we had Gerald Green in our camp the season he went off in Jersey.

You're a smart dude. Do you really believe that?

Management makes calls like that all the time. If management wanted Green over Kapono it would have been done. You and I both know that.

why would management overrule a coach over guy at the end of the bench? c'mon now. all parties have to choose your battles wisely, and gerald green certainly isn't a player worth any type of friction at all. he had a good 31 games and has been trash since getting a deal, lets not go crazy here.

My premise is that upper management can and does have major pull or influence over who will be the 12th or 15th player on the roster. Period

That is an undeniable fact.

Green was needed that year when a collection of SFs (Ebanks, Kapono, and Barnes) were trying to fill the void left by Shannon Brown as backup SG.

I feel Mitch and the FO is better at snagging throw-ins that are included in trades instead of signing free agents.

As someone else mentioned, Mitch has stolen Shannon, Ariza, Clark, and Hill in trades that go under the radar. I still think Hill is a very solid NBA player, dude produced 7 pts and 6 rebs last season in only 15.8 minutes per game and was in the dog house during those games as well. If Hill plays 24-28 minutes per game, he'll average a double double for fun.

In terms of free agents, Mitch hasn't been that great. Artest was a solid pickup, but Ron took a paycut so it can be in the same boat as Payton & Malone. Mitch has signed some poor FA's such as Radmanovic, Walton (re-signed for 6 or 7 years?), McRoberts, Blake, etc. All of these guys stole money from the NBA and didn't produce.
