What if salary was based on performance?

Post#1 » by countryboi » Mon Jul 8, 2013 8:35 pm

I stole this from reddit but idea is that a guy used Win shares to come up with how much each player should be making based on their performance from last year

It would never, ever pass in the NBAPA but it would be beautiful.

I just hope we are willing to pay when Kemba/MKG/Zeller/2014 pick all hit FA, because I think all 4 will command good money.

Interesting that Kemba Walker is the 6th best contract in the league last season, behind Lebron, Harden, Durant, Steph Curry, and Nikola Vucevic

How is that set up? It looks to me like Kemba is a better value than some of the guys ahead of him since he is getting paid 1/6 or so of his value vs guys getting paid more than half their value. I am curious where he would fall by that criteria.

Its skewed by the Bobcats only winning 21 games but this is saying the best value contracts in the league last season based on what that player brought to their team.

In other words, if we had Brandon Knight instead of Kemba we probably go from 21 wins to 13 wins or fewer.

Unfortunately performance based salary would kill team work.
Everyone gonna try to get paid.

depends on how performance is evaluated.

as for the bobcats list, good to note that only ben gordon and brendan haywood are coming back, among the negative value contracts (and both have been tossed around in trade rumors), whereas everyone in the positive value portion is coming back as of now, assuming henderson re-signs. looooots of dead weight dropping off the roster this offseason.

I'm sure it would kill teamwork.

But also, I think some lesser players actually perform better on better teams compared to better players on worse teams.

It would never work regardless of you look at it.

This really shows the value of rookie contracts under the new CBA. We have one heck of a bargain in Kemba while he's under it.

yea a top 15 PG (maybe higher)making less than 3million is a great deal....Charlotte needs to save up some money to sign him to an extension soon
