Good stuff, Kevin. I'll do one of the kickstarters. The film reminds me (a tad) of Nolan's first effort "The Following." You (and doc) would enjoy (or at the very least appreciate) all the films I listed.

PS... Indie comedies 2C: "The Vicious Kind," "The Comedy" and "Klown" are all better than almost any comedy from the decade (not called "This is the end" -- which was guffaw-worthy).

Funny, I recently watched the premier of OB based upon a recommendation ..but I haven't gone back to watch more yet because I was finishing up Mad Men and GOT III. I will pick it up again this summer. Thx!

I got hooked on it. Lots of very interesting twists and turns to the plot. I felt it just got better
and better as it went along...character development.

Took my son to see 'Despicable Me2' and 'Lone Ranger' (back to back) over the weekend.

We both enjoyed DM2 very much... almost as good as the first one.
The Lone Ranger was pretty good too but my son got a little restless since it was kind of long (nearly 2 1/2 hours) and there is a lull in the action in the middle of the film.

I would recommend both but I think I enjoyed DM2 more than Lone Ranger, although Lone Ranger had some pretty awesome action scenes that can best be enjoyed on the big screen.

"A Band Called Death" is not only the greatest doc of the year, and the most profound music doc in history, it may just be the greatest story rock and roll ever told. Where before music historians believed the Ramones were the first punk band ever, now (decades later) they must list "Death" as the seminal band of a genre. In 2008, Jello Biafra discovered and spread a 45 recorded in 1974 (that no one had ever heard of). The story about the band that recorded that 45 is truly epic, and launched the band into music history decades after they broke-up. Death, a band of three black, Detroit brothers, were the first punk band.

I have never heard of another story like it... Inspirational doesn't suffice as a word to describe this movie...

Saw World War Z. Not the type of movie I ever would have gone to see on my own, but I actually got a kick out of it. For what it was, it was pretty well done. It's not a comedy, but I laughed out loud at a few of the zombie scenes.

Have you read the book? My daughter pretty much forced me to read it, and it was surprisingly good.

I have not. There are about 1000 books I would like to get to before WWZ. It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours. I'm good there.

I'll check out the movie someday. Soon, I hope. I had about a thousand books ahead of World War Z too. My daughter kept bugging me to read it, and I'm glad I slipped it to the top of the heap.

The movie is substantially different than the book.

I haven't read or seen either, but per a film podcast I listen to, the movie is different from the book because the film was made with a trilogy in mind.

I also didn't think that cabin in the woods was as clever as people seem to think it is.

Well, the cleverness bar for U.S. horror movies is frighteningly low. It doesn't take too much to stand above the pack. Even John Carpenter can't be John Carpenter nowadays.

You are definitely right about mainstream horror. Indie horror, however, is doing some very interesting things lately. DeadGirl (there are two, I mean the good one), Session 9, Innkeepers, House of the Devil, Berberian Sound Studio (american?)... Even experimental horrors like Yellowbrickroad have moments of dadaesque horror.

As for Cabin, people liked it because of the analogy. They liked having a new type of killer (the government). I didn't like it my first view either. I still don't think it compares to the indie flicks.

Movie may be great but when punk was starting up, we pretty much always thought of the New York Dolls as the 1st punk bank . . . 1971 according to Wikipedia.
