Bill Simmons on Dre and Josh Smith

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Tue Jul 9, 2013 5:07 am

Bill Simmons thinks that Dre is only going to play 20 minutes and quote "if you think he's going to play more, you haven't watched him last year"????????

He also really likes the Josh Smith

and thinks we'll trade Dre for Rondo.

Ultimate homer, but Zach Lowe brings sensibility back into it. Good listen

He was pretty clearly bullshitting in hopes of trying to plant the idea to get his Celtics Drummond. Drummond is absolutely going to play 20+ minutes and Simmons knows it.

On a side note, Zachary Lowe is actually one of my favorite NBA writers. His post Finals game dissections were a,aging and all his columns were solid.

Simmons is a die hard Celtics homer. I can't blame him for it, it's endearing to an extent.

Dre for Rondo will never happen, we're all aware of that. Moose for Rondo doesn't even make a ton of sense. You'd have a starting 5 with Rondo, Smith and Dre. That's a lot of pressure on the wings to stretch the defense.

side note: it was hilarious hearing them bash Kendrick Perkins.

"Oh yeah, you're yelling at the refs for calling out the fact that you changed your pivot foot 3 times."

or even better,

"Kendrick Perkins is the worst offensive player in the NBA"

edit: so apparently Cousins is too much value for Rondo but AD/future first/17mil of expirings not to mention taking on the worst contract ever is perfect value..... :noway:

Bill Simmons doesn't know anything about basketball.

You wouldn't say that if you read the book "Basketball" by Bill. He is a homer, but the book is f--king hilarious and full of a ton of insight and stories you wouldn't ever read in the paper.

Well, I'm sure it's a good book but I cringe every time I see him doing pre/post game coverage. He is always making up wacky trades and saying things that a casual fan would say while the rest of crew just sits there in awkward silence. I just don't think he's all that smart when it comes to basketball despite all the nifty stories he knows.

Bill is really smart but also a homer so ill give him a pass on wanting drummond. If I was a celtic fan I would want drummond to.

Bill Simmons is probably my favorite analyst. He's a very pro-Celtic, but I can't hate on the guy for that. He loves his team. If we were all Celtics fans we'd probably love him. I disagree with him on Drummond, because I think he can play 30+ mpg, but he's very basketball savvy.

This. I haven't listened to the latest BS Report yet though.

Zach Lowe is probably my favorite NBA writer, I highly recommend checking out some of his work.

You are absolutely wrong about this, he often makes great arguments on the B.S. Report. That being said, he's way off on this one. Y u do dis, Bill?

I enjoy Simmons except when he talks about the Pistons, then I want to sucker punch him in a dark ally. I'm surprised he recognized the Smith move for what it was (the best possible use of our money) opposed to some of the more lazy analysis I've heard ("now they have to trade Monroe").

He couldn't be more wrong on Drummond. We are going to trade the 2nd most promising big from the last 3 draft classes AND $17 mil in cap relief AND a 1st round pick for one of the most enigmatic players in the NBA coming off an ACL? Go sail a kite Simmons.

I've said it before, the best we should offer is Knight/Singler/Stuckey/CV31/1st for Rondo/Lee/Bass. That gives the Celtics young players and cap relief. Rondo currently is not worth Monroe or Drummond.

i think bills really good. and he is absolutely right on this. drummond is only going to be able to play 25 mins maybe 27-28 max. youd hope you get more than 20, but you guys have to seen the way he gets tired very quickly. hes not going to be able to play 30 a night just yet, we have to accept that, not to mention how a young huge body like that is incredibly prone to breaking down over 82 games.
thats also the reason i keep saying we need another big who can play center, because if we want monroe and drummond to play together, they cant be the only ones who can occupy the 48 mins at center, moose would have to play insane minutes to be the only other center, as well as playing plenty at PF.

the drummond trade is no different to anyone else outside of detroit fans are proposing. and is no different to us thinking CV+Stuckey for a borderline star like gay or rondo is reasonable. It was good to hear zach lowe reason it with some of our logic though, saying that we wont be trading drummond any time soon. shows how good he is too.

Yeah whatever. He played 20 mpg last year as a rookie with no real diet and the first time being on a pro regimen. So you're foolishly under the belief he won't improve his conditioning? You say Bill is right but come back and say 27-28 minutes tops. So which is it? Because if he plays 28 mpg that's actually fine. Moose will be spending time as the backup center and Josh Smith playing some 4. So those available big man minutes will be more than covered.

This just means he's so desperate for Dre. You can practically see him salivating and lying through his teeth when he tries to undersell Dre.

I don't blame him.

Zach Lowe was correct when he said that we aren't trading Drummond for anything.

I can't stand Bill Simmons but he certainly does know his basketball.

Return to Detroit Pistons
