Re: Will Bynum 2 Years, 5.75M
i do complain because with or without Bynum this is arguably the worst backcourt in the NBA right now (i know Dumars is not done...hopefully), Bynum would be very effective on a team like the Knicks because they have a bunch of shooters, but when you got a lot of good bigs clogging up the paint, Bynum just cant display his strengths a lot. It seems to me Dumars has no real plan what to do, just sign talented players wont cut it. I know Bynum is pretty good backup PG, but not really for this team and this frontcourt. Also by resigning Bynum is assume Knight will probably continue to start, i dont like that at all. He shouldnt be a starter.

Bynum is like a worse version of nate robinson, and nate would be way to expensive. For what we paid bynum isnt all that bad.

Just because Bynam is a second string ,people tend to under rate him all you have to do is look at the stats that tells the whole story.

Re: Will Bynum 2 Years, 5.75M
Nate Robinson got paid the minimum last year and is a way better 3pt scorer, Dumars didnt even try, but instead settled with his own free agent, like a million times before.

If Bynum or Knight does not work out i am sure he will trade at the trade deadline like last year and get another point guard.

He could potentially use Knight + Stuckey's expiring to send to a team for a legit, but overpaid PG what a team wants to get rid of that is either tanking for a pick or clearing capspace for 2014.

I don't like the idea of bringing back the same back court that failed so badly last year, but I don't know how some can claim this is an overpay. $2.87M per year is relative peanuts - he's better than a league minimum player.
9.6 points 3.6 assists shooting 46.7% in 19mpg last season is worth more than $2.87M, or should have been in the open market.

Re: Will Bynum 2 Years, 5.75M
Bynum is a good player and we signed him to a very good contract I am fine with it however I was expecting us to spend more money to get someone better.
Like Kilo said right now we are bringing back the same back court that was hands down the worst back court in the NBA last season and since we spent money on Bynum we do not have significant money to make a huge improvement.
Joe failed to assemble a quality team imo. We still need a starter PG and a starter SG in our roster and we have ~5 million to get both.

I'm not a huge fan of Bynum because I think he's a ball hog but this is a fine contract. He's a spark off the bench that can get his own. Still need a starting PG though.

Can't fill every hole in one off season. Get me a quality PG and I'm good. Might as well roll with KCP at the 2 and let him develop.

Good idea so we would start a PG who can't facilitate the offense and a shooter that can't shoot. #championship.

Re: Will Bynum 2 Years, 5.75M
there's a high probability that we will have 2 more guards on the roster, at least one before the season starts. still have to exceptionally good expiring contracts and some extra for words that ought to be attracted to some teams. KCP seems like a very outstanding prospect to me, but it does not seem realistic the Pistons won't have somebody on the roster that can challenge this rookie for playing time.
Bynum signing as a high-energy backup point guard can play very well with the high flyers the front line makes a lot of sense to me. before we re shaped our front line I wouldn't have wanted them back

Bynum is the perfect backup pg for a winning team, and although he may not "fit" this team, hes better than most availible. and under three million a year isn't enough to get emotional about.

The only positive to this(and it could be a big positive)is that Will will(no pun intended) keep Dre involved in the pick and roll offensively.

Will Bynum was a major part of Drummonds success offensively last year, no clue how anyone wouldnt be happy with him resigning.

Re: Will Bynum 2 Years, 5.75M
I was never a Bynum fan before because he's a one dimensional one trick pony...however that one dimension now may fit better than ever. Only guys who can thrive playing with Bynum are pick and roll bigs and spot up shooters. Assuming he comes into the game with a shooter at the 3 and Detroit shifts their bigs down, it could be a good fit.
It's not true that Detroit needs only shooters at every position now. They need shooters on the wings. Smith isn't playing the 3 the entire game and when Bynum comes in the game, Pistons will likely be replacing one of their bigs with a wing shooter.
It's a good value signing that doesn't constrain them for next years free agency.

...plus you need a slasher/pick and roll guy somewhere in this rotation. With Stuckey on his way out eventually, Bynum is probably the best value answer for that.

Re: Will Bynum 2 Years, 5.75M
...and assuming KCP can play, this is not the same backcourt as last year. Last years backcourt failed so miserably because Frank completely mis-used them and there were no complimentary finishers off the bench outside of under-used Drummond.
Last year Frank attempted to make Knight play like a traditional 1 and Stuckey play like a traditional 2. Then he had Singler at the 2. Then Calderon got his chance to fail.
There is now 2 new wing shooters and a couple more athletes who can get out in transition and finish at the rim. Cheeks is willing to play players to their strengths opposed to trying to pigeon hole them into roles based on position (an outdated concept).
Your point guards will now have a chance to succeed. There is more talent around them.
Chris Paul wasn't going to get a ton of assists passing to Stuckey camping at the 3 point line or Maxiell.
I think some of you are still bitter over Burke. It's really not the same look of a team at all.
