Roster Spots

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Tue Jul 9, 2013 5:58 am

So we need a minimum of 12 on our roster, and 15 max. So we currently have...

Knight/Bynum
Stuckey/KCP
Smith/Singler/Middleton
Monroe/Jerebko/CV
Drummond/Kravtsov

That's 12. English has a team option. 3 spots open if we don't pick up the option and we don't amnesty CV.

What should we do with the 3 spots?

1. Mitchell
2. English
3. Siva

I like English and Siva in the Patty Mills role. Let's try and trade Stuckey and Singler for a guard.

Sign Anthony Marrow, Wayne Ellington or Gary Neal. Keep Siva on the roster as the 3rd PG and hope he develops, sign Samuel Dalembert to be the backup C.

I forgot about Mitchell. Replace Dalembert on my roster with him.

I brought this up in another thread but I think we need to do a 2 for 1 with Stuckey/Singler for a young guard. My thoughts were Reggie Jackson as OKC really needs depth and Stuckey/Singler provide depth in two areas off the bench. With Lamb struggling, these two guys could provide a steady hand before he's ready. On our end, Jackson is a big PG with a 7 foot wing span. Not a true point but that would mean all of our guards can play off of each other because of his size and ball handling.

Knight/Bynum/Siva
Stuckey/KCP/English
Smith/Singler/Middleton
Monroe/Mitchell/Jerebko/CV
Drummond/Kravtsov

There's 15, probably our default.

It looks awful, definitely not playoffs team. Unfortunately we must trade Monroe for someone who can pass or shoot... Stuckey as first SG is suicide.

Wonder what it would take to get Willie Green from the Clippers.

He's been one of the best shooters in the NBA the last two seasons and he is a Detroit native. Would be a much more efficient SG than Stuck.

I don't think English or Siva are locked, or even should make the team. English is supposed to be a 3&D who can't shoot and who is too heavy footed to defend other wings, and Siva is redundant when Bynum was re-signed.

Both of course can make the team, but if we need roster spots English and then Siva are the obvious spots. In fact I think English's 2nd year option will not be picked up. Watch him catch on with San Antonio on the end of their bench and in a couple years will be the next three point assassin.

Stuckey / Knight / Bynum
Ellington / KCP
Smith / Singler / Middleton
Monroe / Mitchell / Jerebko / CV
Drummond / Slava

That's my bet on our roster for the start of the season. Hopefully we will turn Stuckey + CV into a starter PG at some point.

we are paying 8.5 million for a potential 4rth to 5th stringer. Yikes! :o

Some team is going to want to cut salary and we have 2 expiring and like 5 mil cap space to absorb a contract.

Targets: Eric Gordon, Afflalo, Courtney Lee, Heinrich and Thornton.

I like the line-up but would love to see Middleton and Mitchell in the d-league to get game experience. I think Joe D lets English go cause it would be good to have that 15th spot open in case we have a major injury for a vet FA signee or trade.

My depth chart:
G Brandon Knight/Will Bynum/Peyton SIva
G Rodney Stuckey/Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
F Josh Smith/Kyle Singler
F Greg Monroe/Charlie Villanueva/Jonas Jerebko
C Andre Drummond/Slava Krastov
D-League: Tony Mitchell and Khris Middleton

Adding Datome, does CV or Middleton get dropped? Looks like Dumars is still working it...

NO WAY Middleton gets dropped.

Siva doesn't get signed or English's second year doesn't get picked up on Friday would be the only possibilities barring a trade.

Middleton will be kept. My guess is we dump English since we have seen the most of him or Dumars moves some trash (CV or Stuck) with Singler for another trash expiring.

Deadlines passed on the buyouts. Were not exercised. Amnesty period for Villanueva is July 10-16. English guarantee deadline is this Friday. Those are the key dates to watch.

Maybe we end up amnestying CV to make a push for a guy like Brandon Wright or Dalembert?

Knight / Bynum / Siva
Stuckey / KCP / English
Smith / Singler / Middleton / Datome
Monroe / Mitchell / Jerebko
Drummond / WRIGHT / Kravtsov
