Re: Official 2013 Orlando Summer League Thread
Olynyk has been dominating the summer league so far, and I'll be extremely impressed if Plumlee is able to slow him down.

WOW Miles Plumlee just threw it down.
Solomon Hill is playing really smart and it's impressive.

Re: Official 2013 Orlando Summer League Thread
Plumlee looks really scared in the post. The defender is giving him space with his back to the basket, but he'd rather take jumpers or pass it out than attempt to post up. Kinda worrisome.

Re: Official 2013 Orlando Summer League Thread
I missed most of today's game, but Plumlee was shooting hooks in the post with either hand in earlier games. I'm comfortable with his back to the basket game, but I worry whether he has the face to the basket game necessary to play the four.
Chris Wriight showed me nothing in the prior two games. in fact, I'd go farther and say no one with the exception of R Butler not currently under contract has shown me enough to even get a training camp invitation. maybe Mavunga will though.

Re: Official 2013 Orlando Summer League Thread
I gotta disagree on Plumlee. He had that one hook shot in the lane and that's simply his only post move. He has to develop that more to be effective.
And OJ just looked off. I was a huge fan of him in the regular season... but so far he's just been invisible out there.

Olynyk is going to be a solid pro. Boston did well to draft him.
Plumlee did not have a bad game 3/4- 9pt/7rb/2st/1blk, he just wasn't assertive enough.

Missed this game; but it appears that Indy made a drastic come from behind effort from the box score. I watched Olynyk the first two days and thought the same thing. Plum has done enough for me to think he will be a solid backup 4; he's rebounds; block/adjust shots; and makes dunks and layups. One thing that is a concern I noticed about him in the first two games is that he doesnt have the surest hands; he fumbles passes sometimes.

I think we can attribute a lot of that to lack of practice together with the passers. now Jerome Jordan seems to have stone hands.
I'd hope to see Miles play more 4. if he is still just a 5, we may need another vet. there is a press conference at 1 to officially announce signings. maybe there will be a third we haven't heard about.

Re: Official 2013 Orlando Summer League Thread
Watching the Summer League causes me to generally like where the Pacers are right now and at this point it's up to the players.
Plumlee has looked good enough to make me think he's not a total bust and I'm seeing a nice competition looming between him and Mahamni for backup minutes at center. Miles would have to blow up pretty big to get much run at the 4. I'm not necessarily seeing that.
Solomon Hill appears to be exactly what was advertised. The competition that will result I think will be him vs OJ for minutes as the 4th wing. The opportunity here could be significant if Granger isn't able to come back strong or plays significant minutes at the 4.
I'm afraid this session has further exposed OJ's weak shot. Like his handle and ability to defend but wings generally have to be able to shoot and Solo appears to have a big advantage.
Donald Sloan has been a mild revelation. I'm fine with him as the third point. Nice upgrade over Ben. I see a little Haywood Workman in him. Could he battle Watson before it's all over?

but if that happens, he won't have to fight OJ for minutes at least not directly. if Granger gets limited minutes at the 3, there will be a good number of minutes available for Solo there. Let's work backwards from the 2 spot. I don't see a need to push Lance beyond 30 minutes which leaves 18 which could easily go 12 to Paul George and 6 to OJ. if that's right and Paul gets 36, then he'll take 24 of the minutes at the 3. the hope is that by playoff time Danny could get all of those minutes and some at 4 too, but if we work him back slowly there could easily be 12 minutes for Solo at the 3 early in the year. if he plays those minutes well, Danny may have a tough choice next summer.
speaking of which did you see that AK47 opted out of a 10mm deal to sign for 3? unless there is a wink wink you can play for my Russian team in the summer deal, this is a real be careful what you wish for situation. and were I Stern and want to make sure there was no wink wink before I approved the contract.

OJ has been ugly. He has to correct that jump shot of his.

Without wanting to introduce prejudice, the Russian football league/team owners aren't exactly shining examples of ethical ownership. Even Abramovich of Chelsea FC has some dodgy back-stories that are not disappearing in a hurry. For example: He used a henchman to buy a club in the Netherlands because the FA forbids him owning more than one team, his name is not on the paper anywhere but it is pretty clear to everyone who the real owner is.
Vogel is Dutch for Bird.

S Hill looks like his legs are failing him a bit as his 3 point shot isn't falling. on the plus side he is able to guard Trey Burke.

I won't be shocked at all to see Stern undo this deal. How is this any better than the Laker/Chris Paul deal he resinded a while back. Can't imagine he's going to let some Russian who's so rich as to be indifferent to the salary cap flaunt something like this in everyone's face. This is still Stern's game.

Re: Official 2013 Orlando Summer League Thread
It appears that Christian Watford has resigned himself to Europe for the time being. Reports came out yesterday that he had signed in Israel. He's disputed that, as he's still considering WHICH European league to play in. Appears he'll be an NBA possibility in 2-4 years of refining his skills.
Also, in other IU news, Jordan Hulls signed in Poland, and Derek Elston signed in Malta, professionally. Thus, once Watford signs, 5 players from IU last year will have signed professional contracts (Oladipo and Zeller are the obvious other two).

IU fan will be referencing back 2012/13 for many years to come as the one that got away.
I expect the pro careers of VO, Cody and maybe Sheehy and Yogi will only make it worse.

Also resigning themselves to Europe are Ben Hansbrough and Julian Mavunga, respectively. Neither will be in training camp.
