Kevin Martin

I do not understand how the T-Wolves signed Martin.

Kevin Love $14,693,906
Nikola Pekovic $6,046,500 (Cap Hold RFA)
Derrick Williams $5,293,080
Jose Juan Barea $4,687,000
Luke Ridnour $4,320,000
Ricky Rubio $4,002,120
Alexey Shved $3,066,667
Greg Stiemsma $2,690,875 (Cap Hold RFA)
Dante Cunningham $2,180,000
Mickael Gelabale $916,099 (Cap Hold RFA)
Chris Johnson $916,099
Shabazz Muhammad $1,572,600 (Cap Hold Rookie Contract)
Gorgui Dieng $1,127,200 (Cap Hold Rookie Contract)
Chase Budinger $5,000,000 (New Contract)

This roster amounts to $56.5 million which is 1 million over the cap. Minny is going to have to do some moving around to make this work under the cap. Maybe a sign and trade will happen?

I already have them renouncing his rights. I don't understand how this works w/o a sign and trade.

Looks like either Ridnour or JJ Barea could be had in this Kevin Martin Deal. It just depends if the Thunder value the player and or contract enough to go into the Lux Tax.

First, the projected cap is $58.5 mil, not $55.5 mil.

Second, while Budinger has verbally agreed to a deal, until he actually signs the contract, his cap hold is only $884k. Thus, Minnesota can have Martin sign first, then go over the cap when Budinger signs (since they own Budinger's Bird rights).

Assuming your addition is correct with that $56.5 mil total...

replacing Budinger's $5 mil with his $884k cap hold gets their cap figure down to $52.4 mil...

then if they waive Stiemsma and Gelable (FYI: non-guaranteed salaries; also, not RFAs) that lops off another $3.6 mil to get Minnesota down to a $48.8 mil cap figure.

That's more than enough space to add Martin at a starting salary of $7 mil. They can then go over the cap to sign their own free agents (Budinger, Pekovic).

Cap of 58m
Guaranteed (41m) + Unguaranteed (3.6m) + Cap hold ( 11.7m + 9m + 1m ) i.e. AK, Pek,Buddinger.

That's total salary of 66.3m meaning they can only use MLE.

Assuming you remove AK 11.7m cap hold, that's salary of 54.6m which means you can only use MLE.

Then you can either trade one of the backup PG of 4m salary or waive those unguaranteed to be enough under capspace to sign Martin.

BUT if Martin is signed for capspace they cant use MLE hence why they might want do a S&T. A S&T where a team needing a backup PG might want to take Ridnour and give us capspace or a lower salary player and Minny give us 2nds could work. Will definitely not be a first though.

Do people see Jeremy Lamb stepping up and being Martin's replacement or do you think OKC brings in another SG?

Its a lot to ask of a 2nd year player, who didnt get any playing time in his 1st year to replace someone who was the 3rd best scorer on a championship caliber team...but yeah, Im afraid thats pretty much the case right now.

I don't see us taking a center after drafting Adams and the team also stating we will not be amnesty-ing Perk. Just already have a lot of money tied up in that position for as little as we'll get out of it. We just desperately need a bench scorer unless I'm drastically underestimating what Reggie and Lamb can bring.

unless we're ready to give up serious asset in a sign and trade, we can only offer MLE money for FAs.

Reggie averaged 5.3 points during regular season last year in 14 minutes playing time, which equals 13.6 per 36mins.
In the playoffs after Russ went down and Reggie had to play starter minutes, he averaged 15.3 points in those 9 games, but played 36 minutes.

This shows me, that he actually hasnt really improved his scoring efficiency by alot, he just played way more minutes.
Assuming he will get maybe 20 minutes per game next year, he will score around 8-9 points, which IS an improvement, but not a whole lot.

Wolves fans want to help OKC shed salary via three team deal with Rid/JJ + Stiemsma's unguaranteed deal, maybe 2nd round picks. Hope that's cool with you.
