Great, hopefully he will be the head coach of the Raptors about 10-15 games in

Bingo

I guess its MU's way of getting his guy before he fires/doesn't resign casey next off season.

Got word last night – and it was no surprise and something that’s been “reported” quite often – that Nick Nurse is on board with Dwane Casey’s staff and he’ll be the head coach of the summer league team that’s going to convene in Vegas today or tomorrow.

No, we don’t know for sure who’s on the team and the only guys that really matter are Terrence Ross, Quincy Acy, Jonas Valanciunas and Julyan Stone but at least we know who’ll coach it. Nurse was the D League coach of the year last year and comes highly touted by people I trust who know that league well and was also the head coach of Great Britain at the London Olympics.

(Yes, he’d know Pops Mensa-Bonsu quite well and I presume that will stand him in good stead with many of you).

I don't know why it is bothering me but why is our Summer League team not confirmed yet? Is Masai just rounding up some random ballers at Hoopsdome for this event?

I really want to post up a thread about the lack of work Masai is doing since the Bargnani trade, but it will probably get locked, but Raptors are noticeably quiet lately, while other teams are moving pieces around to either tank or get better. I mean, if we wanted to do nothing, why not just let BC stay for one more year?

Relax.

We still have the rest of the month and August to make some moves. Masai just got his full team acquainted with eachother like 2 weeks ago.

And if BC stayed, he would have likely made more stupid signings and trades to handicap this team even further.

Yup. A young, dynamic, development coach is just what we need if we decide to re-build and stockpile young guys for the next 2 years.

Nick Nurse (born July 24, 1967 in Carroll, Iowa) is an American basketball coach who is the head coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League (NBADL).

Nurse spent 12 seasons coaching in Europe, mostly in the British Basketball League (BBL).[1] He won the BBL Coach of the Year Award in 1999–00 and 2003–04.[2] In 2007, he accepted the head coaching job for the Energy, who were preparing for their first season in the NBA D-League.[3] The Energy won division titles under Nurse in the 2008–09 and 2009–10 seasons. After three seasons with the team, Nurse agreed to join the coaching staff of the Iowa State Cyclones as an associate head coach in April 2010.[2] Shortly afterward, however, Cyclones head coach Greg McDermott became the head coach at Creighton, and Nurse went back to his former position with the Energy.[4] In the 2010–11 NBA D-League season, Nurse received the Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year award after helping Iowa achieve the best record in the league (37–13).[5] On September 29, 2011, the D-League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced that Nurse would be taking the position as the team's head coach for the 2011–12 season.[6][7]

In the 2012/2013 NBA D-League season, the Rio-Grande Vipers finished with a record of 35-15 and won the D-League finals in a 2 game sweep of the Santa Cruz Warriors. [8]

Bold claim by Sam Mitchell: "Kelly Olynyk will be a 18ppg 9 rpg"..

I don't know about all that but I just saw KO take a 3 off the dribble moving forward (showing a lot of balance), I did not know he could that with so much ease!!!

the people doug trusts turn out to be just as unreliable as him. Nurse was not Head Coach of team GB, that was Chris Finch. I'm pretty sure Nurse has never been part of a team GB coaching staff!

Nice one doug.

You are right and wrong. He wasn't the head coach, Finch was. But he was an assistant coach on that 2012 GB team.

Anyone else ecstatic to see another coach in charge of our offense? I'm praying Nick Nurse is as good an offensive coordinator as I imagine he is. Then again anything would be better then DC's pound the rock

you have no idea what Masai is or isn't doing. None what so ever. Just because there are not any real leaks as to what is going on doesn't mean that stuff isn't going on... you kids in the ADD generation need to learn a little patience.

I predict Nick Nurse is coaching the Raptors by next season, if not before. Just a hunch.

Prolly a stupid question...but from what I've head and seen we possibly one have 6 players (to my knowledge) on our SL roster.

anyone else care to update me? I'm not finding anything anywhere.

I am curious how Nurse meshes with Casey. While Summer League is all wide open, how does Nurse implement his system with Casey who is a slower pace coach who like low turnover B-Ball.

Maybe we could look at what San Antonio is doing as the ideal hybrid of free-flowing offense focused on the extra pass for shooters, while they have a top level defense because they have players willing to shot contest. I think we have a pretty good mix, but we don't have Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter, although Amir and Jonas should be improved this year.

We obviously need more shooters to spread the floor, and one more playmaker. I like the idea of getting Mo Williams on a two year deal, but I doubt we can get him.

Nick Nurse Uses a high octance offence, hopefully Casey will let him handle the offense more, while he focuses on defence.

If we wanted to do nothing, then firing BC was the exact thing to do.

Did you enjoy our hectic off season's from years past?? You know, those season that saw us winning 30 games, missing the playoffs, and not having any picks in the following year's draft?

We hired a GM and gave him 5 years to fix this, not five weeks.

First of all, the premise of your post is "if we take away the really big move that Masai has made so far, then he hasn't done anything." And that does not make sense.

Also, if we had kept BC, what are the odds that he would do nothing?

Part of the problem here is that we have had 6 years of a wheeling and dealing GM and now we have a GM who is pretty much the polar opposite.
The absurd mystery of the strange forces of existence.
