I rather have Rasheed Wallace then Bill Laimbeer.
I know Rasheed is not the head coach but I feel he would be a better teacher to the young guys. Even though he seemed like a hot head on the court, he's very chill and relaxed off the court. He's a very smart player and doesn't seem like someone who would get mad if a player isn't understanding what he's teaching. Bill on the other hand from everything I've seen and read is a total jerk. I've never really heard of anyone hating Rasheed as a person. I've know a lot of people hate Bill. Sheed being just a assistant coach is better than Bill being a coach period.

I think the only reason he might be better is because he can get a fire lit under them, otherwise i probably would have preferred laimbeer.

Sheed is certainly going to relate to the players better than Bill would. Sheed also has credibility as a former champion and all star.
He had such a well rounded game, I hope Smith, Monroe, Drummond and Mitchell can all add pieces of it to their game.

Supposedly Lambeer has some behind the scenes incidents that have made him kind of toxic. Supposedly from his WNBA coaching. I don't know what that is exactly though.

This.
Reading through articles it already seems like Sheed has build some chemistry with Dre and Moose from last year and the two of them are looking forward to working with Sheed.
Great pick up IMO

I love the signing of Sheed. If anything, he'll make us tough and grind again, while at the same time relating to these kids. I don't think RoboFrank did any of that (bless the man).
Detroit vs Everybody by way of Belgium.

Re: I rather have Rasheed Wallace then Bill Laimbeer.
When I read the title of post I thought you meant comparing them as players. In which I would have said no way in hell. But as far as coaching goes, Laimbeer has more coaching experience currently - But certainly Sheed will be far better able to fit in with todays players.
Very interesting that Laimbeer's personality which GREATLY helped shape and mold the champion Bad Boy Pistons of the past has so negatively effected Laimbeer's later professional life (as far as coaching goes)
I only recently found out that Laimbeer was offered a high front office position when he retired and simply brushed it off. Something he says he regrets doing heavily. Probably would have already coached this team, or would have been the GM. But hey... That's his bed to sleep in, and not mine.

I dont understand this. If your talking about credibility, Laimbeer was also an all-star, and a two-time champion.ImHeisenberg wrote:Sheed is certainly going to relate to the players better than Bill would. Sheed also has credibility as a former champion and all star.

I say have both, as both were headcases in thier own way. Laimbeer also had a very well rounded game, and as tough as nails.
Maybe a misunderstood what you were getting at?

Grammar nazi here...you mean "than". The way your title is worded, it means you'd rather have Rasheed Wallace followed by Bill Laimbeer.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Really? I hadn't heard that. If this true, hopefully that ends all the "woe is Laimbeer, just give the guy a chance" bs that constantly gets spewed around this city. He HAD a chance.

You don't understand why there would be a significant generational gap between a guy who was born in 1957 and players who were born in the 90's? The game is played differently now, and Sheed played last year. He's more knowledgeable in how the game is played today, and will relate better with those guys.
Sheed also isn't considered a "head case", nor was Laimbeer. Laimbeer was simply hated around the league for his dirty play. Sheed is loved by players, despite what Joey Crawford may have you believe.

Sheed would be easier to relate to as He was in his prime when Moose and Dre were watching basketball. They would have seen him at the top of his game, going to all star games and winning championships.
Laimbeer is one of the greats but the young guys wouldn't have seen him play.

Rasheed mentioned exactly this in an interview for one of the newspapers as one of the reasons he didn't take time away from the game but jumped right in - because he'd be coaching players who grew up watching him on television in his prime and what he'd say would have more weight to them than if he was trying to coach guys who never saw him play.

Re: I rather have Rasheed Wallace then Bill Laimbeer.
We have no idea how Sheed will be as a coach - all this stuff is just an emotional reaction. Laimbeer clearly has the greater coaching background. He's also the guy that maximized his abilities while Sheed often tainted his with his antics. I'll let everyone else circulate the rumors about Laimbeer having other issues. I'm just not sure what's true. And any player who listens to a coach more because he saw him play really needs to think again.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Technically, you have no idea ho Laimbeer would be as an NBA coach. Please don't use WNBA as some pedigree, and even if you do, don't forget to mention the fact he had players that outright hated him.
