Booker and Ariza have to be concerned about minutes being squeezed. Booker is in a contract year. He knows Ernie's reputation is riding on Vesely. Ariza obviously knows he's not the future at SF and the Wizards just resigned Martell Webster. I also think Singleton should be welcoming any trade, particularly to a team like OKC that could really use him as a backup.

Seems very reasonable to expect a couple guys will be traded, but I'm hoping they don't move Ariza now simply because he might want out.

The smart move would be to look to trade Nene's deal ASAP to any team not leery of his injury woes. However, I'm pretty sure Nene isn't who Wittman and the Wizards are looking to trade.

Thanks for breaking news here. Ariza should have some value, we need front court depth obviously.

Edit: Damn, missed the segment, he's gone already.

While I think trading Ariza might be logical in many ways, I think we have no intentions of trading him, and what Witt was referring to was a package of Vesely and Singleton, or maybe Booker or Seraphin. He wants to "see what they get." That means we're throwing out our garbage and just hoping for the best. Can't get any worse. But then again that would require another team to actually WANT one or both of those players. Or we'd have to include a real asset like a future pick or Ariza maybe, OR take on a bad contract. I'm fine with taking on a **** overpaid player, but only if he's expiring this year. Can't afford to cut into next summer's cap space just for a very marginal improvement.

But I'm glad to hear they're not done in FA. Not too late to bring back AJ Price for the vet minimum or a capable big man who was overlooked and slipped through the cracks. Praying for Brandan Wright or DeJuan Blair somehow.

If they add either of those guys, while subtracting dead weight, I'm going to be overjoyed. This team will really be improved in terms of quality depth. I think the ship has sailed on AJ. Temple's good enough and I sort of trust Maynor will be an upgrade.

As far as I'm concerned they need an energetic rebounder like Blair or a highly skilled PF like Wright. (I doubt they get Wright). I think somebody like Andrew Nicholson or maybe, Anthony Randolph, would make a ton of sense for the Wizards players they want to trade away.

Alright was in the car when I made the thread but heard the whole interview lets see here's what he talked about:

-Brought up FA and possible trade talk right off the bat after Lavar and Chad talked about the team and the moves that have been made and for some reason I really really believed it, he kinda said it emphatically

-He loves Otto

-Wall, Beal and Otto maybe the quietest core in the NBA and you never hear anything negative off the court with any of them

-Witt loves Otto more

-Talks about getting Nene healthy and the potential of the team when there all healthy

-Talks about Martell re-signing and the fact that to get minutes on this tem you have to prove you can play the game of basketball in all aspects

-Talked about the Patriots situation and being a head coach in that type of situation and keeping players under control

-Witt loves Otto even more and we got Lucky #3 and he's the best player in draft

-Witt didn't care about players who were specialists in the draft he wanted the complete player hence the Otto selection

That's pretty much it

Dejuan Blair or Brandan Wright would be excellent, cheap pickups. If Grunfeld were able to snag either (or both), I would consider this a successful offseason (even with the overpaying of Webster).

At this point in FA, Ernie typically waits to see who's left on the scrap-heap and then he comes a callin.

Well we need to do something, the wizards are about to get screwed again for another year. The Heat, Bulls, Knicks, Nets, and Pacers are essential locks to make the playoffs. That means we have to contend with the Cavs, Pistons, Bucks, Hawks, 76ers for that final playoff spot. We had one of the worst teams in the NBA and granted I like Otto Porter, but you can't expect a 19 year old kid to come in here and make us playoff contenders right from jump.

We need to make moves, the cavs drafted Bennett, signed Jack, and now are potentially getting Bynum. The pistons picked up Josh Smith, the sixers and hawks are always in talks that they are interested in players. Grunfeld doesn't do jack but sit around and stuff his face. We need to make moves, we should have moved hell and earth to bring Josh Smith in here. Ernie get off your lazy butt and do something. That's all I have to say today. Just heard the knicks are interested in metta world peace, what the hell are the wizards interested in?

Mike Lee is on 106 now, just said the Wizards haven't been good at developing players. Say good-bye to your press credentials Mike.

Why? He's right?

Jan, Singleton, Booker...and that's just on the current squad.

Let's not forget Javale and Nick Young...

Well, at the moment all we have is the vet minimum, which probably means we're going to have to wait until the end of the month or maybe even August to fill that last spot. Just like we did with Webster last year. It's actually a pretty decent strategy. Pick up whoever got unlucky and fell through the cracks, but is clearly deserving of a bigger contract than he'll get. Low risk, high reward.

Guys like Blair and Wright are absolutely worth more than the minimum, and I expect that they would never even consider signing for the minimum at this moment, because if that's all they can get, then they might as well wait it out and hope somebody changes their mind. Then they can pretty much sign wherever they want since it's on a minimum deal.

I caught this, as well as Lee, and the tail end of Rice Jr earlier. But yeah I was mildly shocked at Wittman's enthusiasm and his near insistence that the Wizards will be making more moves.

Right off the bat he mentions their still looking at free agency. Then bringing up the intention of making a trade. He mentioned this a few times throughout the interview about making trades and stating their "not done".

And yes he likes Otto. He expects him to have similar development and success as Beal last year. He also really likes Okafor, and mentioned him being the one that gone in Wall's ear and being the reason his attitude and season turned around and took off.

Revealing, what does this tell you about the player-coaching-staff relationships? Is this part of the reason why Seraphin and Vesely regressed?
