OK, we help ORL clear cap (no Harris this time)

Post#1 » by Piston Pete » Wed Jul 10, 2013 1:57 am

Basic premise...Orlando's committed to rebuilding thru the draft and will likely want to clear long-term contracts off their roster sooner rather than later. This deal gives them ~ $17 million in expirings.

ORLANDO GETS:
PF Charlie Villanueva (expiring)
PG/SG Rodney Stuckey (expiring)
SF Kyle Singler
PG Peyton Siva

Stuckey / Siva
Oladipo / Moore
Harris / Singler
Davis / Nicholson / CV
Vucevic / O'Quinn

DETROIT GETS:
PG Jameer Nelson (signed for 2 more years)
SG Arron Afflalo (signed for 3 more years)
SF Maurice Harkless (rookie deal, 3-4 more years)

Knight / Nelson / Bynum
Afflalo / KCP / English
Smith / Harkless / Middleton / Datome
Monroe / Mitchell / Jerebko
Drummond / Kravtsov

Can you create a trade for Wes Matthews?

Stuckey + Singler good enough?

I think you just simplify it and boil it down to Stuckey for Afflalo. It would depend on how much Orlando really tries t make Oladipo a point guard though. If he plays the point, than they have need for Lalo. However if they abandon that then maybe would could get Aaron back if they are looking to get out from under his contract. Stuckey could play the point for them for the rest of the season. Orlando would have a much better chance being a free agent destination city - but I don't think they're really worried about cap space as a quick look at their roster shows that they should have a ton of cap space available.

They won't give away Harkless.

This one really insults the intelligence of orl and its fans. Orlando is nowhere close to tax/cap issues. They have zero incentive to trade away assets, especially not one of their top three young assets. If they don't want Afflalo, Nelson, or Harrington on the team, they can just not play them or release them. The only reason they'd need to cut salary is if they wanted to go after an expensive FA next year. They have no plans to do so as of now, so they have no reason to package an asset and a contract.

Rebuilding teams gather good young players, they don't give them away for cap space that's totally useless for them.

Also rookie deals for 1st rounders are only guaranteed for two years. Can cut guys after their second season, like Portland just did to Nolan Smith. After the first two years comes two years of team option.

I think Orlando stops to ask if it is Joe D or a realgm poster in a nun's habit on the other line than hangs up.

We do this only if Pat Riley turns this package down for LBJ.

more reasonable Pistons-Magic trade

Post#12 » by Joe Berry » Wed Jul 10, 2013 1:10 pm

How about:

Knight
Jerebko
Stuckey
Charlie

for

Nelson
Afflalo
Davis

We give up a talent in Knight, but get back 3 solid veterans, they can wait for Knight to get "it" and get a $hitload of capspace for the 2014 free agency, also by unloading their veterans they should get a top 3 pick, win-win.

Nelson/Bynum/Siva
Afflalo/KCP/Middleton
Smith/Singler/Gigi
Monroe/Davis/Mitchell
Dre/Slava

While Nelson is not a longterm solution at PG he is 31 and signed for next 2 seasons and is a solid established PG who knows how to run a team, we should still look out for a better PG down the road, but this would be an instant playoff team, Afflalo and Davis still got 2-3 years left on reasonable contracts.
A bigman rotation with Dre/Monroe/Davis/Smith is as good as it gets in the NBA, Afflalo fills a huge hole at SG.
