Man have we been spoiled by the last three years.

But seriously, firesale time

3 years? 2 years. 2011 was horrible, we gave up our future to try to go back to the playoffs. At least we're so far out of it now that we won't do that.

Dumb as that trade was in retrospect, 2011 was still a winning team and we had hope for most of the year. This season is reminding me more and more of the dark years of 05-08

Completely untrue. I was not happy about the deal, and I'm pretty sure most people here felt the same. I can remember exactly where I was when I read the news.

Wait what? I didn't say anything about the trade. I said we've been spoiled by winning so much over the past three years. We didn't make the playoffs in '11 but we didn't feel we were out of it till the end of August (and still ended the season 10 games over 500). We haven't even reached the AS break yet and we know the season's over now.

You seem to be justifying the trade at the time it occurred here. Guess I'm reading it wrong.

Ah yeah, you're right. Two different thoughts in the same sentence.

Thankfully Sabean has sounded like much more of a realist recently. If we're making any trades before the deadline it'll be for prospects. More likely we stay put though.

Well that's a relief. I think Scutaro would fetch a good prospect.

Aw I don't want to trade Scooter :(

Trade fatty and Pence. Timmy has been really good since June 1st, I think he could get something decent. Also trade Lopez, great lefty out of the pen but he'll be a FA and too expensive.

Same here. It would be a sad day, I grant you. But he'll be 38 this year, and his value is at an all time high. I'm sure a team like Pittsburgh would love the idea of adding a *PROVEN WINNER* to their team at a time when they could finally end their pitiful playoff drought.

I would be equally sad to see fatty and Pence go. The latter has really grown on me as a Giant.

I still don't think Tim would bring back anything of value, and I think fans would revolt.

Fatty will never go because his hats still sell, probably same with Timmy, but throw out Pence and Lopez and maybe stick Belt to a deal to try to sucker someone into taking him too.

Giants are kind of in a terrible situation for trades cause their window to compete is now and in the next couple of years, and they have too much invested in the current team to do a full rebuild. So any trades they look for will probably help them contend in 2014, not later. We just don't have much to give away though in the farm or in the big leagues besides the three long term contracts (Posey, Bum & Cain) who are more or less untouchable. Scoots' value might be a little low cause he's signed till 2015 when he'll be 40, and I can't think of any good teams looking for a fatty so fatty will probably stay here. Pence is the most likely position player to be traded, and I think the Pirates are a good fit. They've got a bunch of good OF prospects and a good farm system as a whole but none are ready for the big leagues yet.

I'd say there's a good chance that the only players to go will be from the bullpen. All of them are expendable IMO and pretty much every contending team is looking for relievers. If the market's thin I could see a team become desperate and overpay for one of our lefties. Though I'd like to keep him, Romo would probably be the best reliever on the market if the Giants decided to trade him. Rangers, Rays, and Sox have deep systems and all could use a reliever. The other teams in our division all need pitching as well if we're willing to trade with them.

No way we trade Romo unless that one guy is ready from the minors is ready to be the closer. Then again, we only use Romo like once a week now so who needs a closer?

I guess teams never get back much for trading relievers so it may not be worth it, but it wouldn't be the worst thing IMO if we traded him if it netted us a top prospect. Haven't ever seen him name pop up in any rumors though so it's probably never gonna happen anyway.

Good for Wheeler, he deserves to dominate us after we threw away our best prospect for a FA that wasn't even signed past the next year. **** off, Saban.

And Wheeler and Bum would have been our franchise pitchers for the next decade...or 3-4 years, until he fades off into the sunset like Timmy. Bum and Posey forever :(
