The #Orlando #Magic have picked Bill Burgos, strength coach of the #Knicks, to be their new strength and conditioning coach.

What happened to the guy we had? He was doing a hell of a job based on how the guys in summer league look. Probably got a better job offer...

Took the Rockets job.

Prior to the Knicks, Burgos completed a two-year stint with the Orlando Magic as their Strength & Conditioning Coordinator working alongside current Magic head strength coach and Pro Hoop Strength member Joe Rogowski.

This is good experience for him to have the ball constantly in his hands against rookies and minor league type players.

Harkless only got 17mpg during the first half because he was literally playing like one of the worst players in basketball. It wasn't "bringing him along slowly" he was just that terrible.

His left hand is much better than anyone, even his supporters, thought it would be. He just doesn't have the court awareness and dribbling ability of a pure point guard, I feel like Moore is out there sometimes watching him. Not a bad thing, he's a SG, but it doesn't look natural and it's not something that guys can just acquire. He might be able to, but the opportunity for him is at SG. I like the experiment/practice being at the PG, but I just don't see it happening in the regular season. Nothing planned, he may bring the ball up, but I don't think he'll be running the actual point for more than a few minutes a night in the season.

He won't get a lot of calls as a rookie, but his desire to get to the hole is very good. I haven't checked, but I assume he's leading summer league in FT attempts. The thing that first stood out on my list for him was his ability to pass out of penetration for an easy assist. I see that transitioning very well to the NBA.

I'm interested to see what happens in the regular season with him, if he still goes to the rim as often, and how many minutes he gets. He could really benefit from an Afflalo trade. I don't think he needs any mentoring and minutes would be good.

You know, I actually kind of agree with you. I think they are doing this so that he can become a solid passer as a SG. If he is good, then when he drives, teams will throw double teams on him left and right. His ability to pass out to the open man, even as a SG, could be an invaluable skill. The biggest stat that hurts him is the number of turnovers. But if he isn’t the primary ball-handler, that might go down. Is this like the Durant at SG experiement in OKC Hhis rooke year?

Also, keep in mind that the PG position can be pretty overrated. I don’t think you need one of your best players to be a PG to win a title. If he can become a PG, then so be it. If not, then he can still be an awesome SG.

He just looked lost early on, which was expected considering his age/experience and where he was drafted. They initially brought him off the bench and then soon after they transitioned him to starting but with bench minutes. Seemed pretty obvious to me they were grooming him to be a future big minutes starter.

The Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Pelicans agreed upon a Jrue Holiday trade a few days before the draft, but it was dependent on Nerlens Noel, Anthony Bennett or Victor Oladipo remaining available.

Clearly they wanted Noel (#6) over Mclemore (#7), but it's interesting the latter wasn't even on their list for the trade scenario.

I hope he's as good as Joe. All players, past & present, give major love to Joe and his workout regimens.

When I made the post about the rookies being coddled, which they were (Tobias was in his 2nd season when he came to the Magic, not a rookie btw), I also said go back and look at the quotes from Henny, Martins, and Vaughn. They have said since day one, in a unified message, that their goal is to put the guys in positions to succeed and build their confidence slowly and strategically. That's what they did. Injuries happened in January/February time and things went up in the air for the most part, but they still brought them along slowly, didn't put them in bad situations, protected them, for a while. I don't think they'd have been playing so much post AS break if not for so many injuries.

Pelicans have made a lot of moves so far. I can't remember how many, but they're definitely active.

Is it possible for Monta Ellis to end up in Houston? Sign and trade maybe?
