So no one gives this guy an offer and we just overpay him anyway. Great job Flip!

Ehh it's not my money so I don't really care. Glad to have big Pek back.

Rubio/Barea/Shved
Martin/Bazz/Shved
Budinger/Brewer/Bazz
Love/Williams/Cunningham
Pek/Dieng/Johnson

It really looks like there isn't any room for D-Will. I'm worried about what happens to him because we have a starting SG already and our SF rotation is solid. maybe D-Will for a backup SG? 3&D guy?

With maximum 7.5% raises, the contract is probably

11,000,000
11,825,000
12,650,000
13,475,000
Total: 48,950,000

Overpaying a little bit is better than losing him. Teams didn't make any offers because they knew Minnesota would match. It could've been worse. A team could've offered even more, then we would've been stuck paying more than what's being reported right now.

I know many aren't, but I'm happy with the offseason (aside from drafting Shabazz).

There's depth, talent, shooting, passing, rebounding, defense, etc.

I'm so relieved, honestly. I kept expecting Dallas or Cleveland to throw $13 or $14 per year at him and we'd let him walk.

PG - Rubio
SG - Martin
SF - Budinger or Brewer
PF - Love
C - Pekovic

That's a legit starting 5 (assuming everyone is HEALTHY) with a deep bench of Williams, Cunningham, Bud/Brew, Shved, Dieng, Bazz and who knows what happens with Barea and Ridnour.

This. I still wouldn't want to risk him being out there when either Cleveland or Atlanta loses in free agency. It only takes one team to get desperate and offer him his full max. You don't want to piss him or his agent off.

Seemed to me with the lack of offers that we were in position to get a good deal for once. Guess it was stupid of me to have such expectations of this franchise.

** The Corey Brewer deal makes this Pek contract look absolutely golden.

I'm not really happy with the Brewer deal, either. I think they were just trying to deal fairly with Pek, though. If they lowballed him too much, he could just take the QO and be unrestricted next year, though that is a big risk for him. He's easily a top ten center and is getting paid about top 13.

Pek's deal is right in line with what centers get.

Hibbert - $15m
Marc Gasol - $15m
Lopez - $15m
Chandler - $14m
Al Jeff - ~ $13m
Noah - $12m
Jordan - $11m
McGee - $10m
Perkins - $9m
Splitter - $9m

Even though the QO was probably unlikely, if Pek felt like he was getting lowballed, then he could have told other teams that he no longer wants to return to the Wolves. Then you run the risk of Atlanta and Cleveland offering him 13+ million dollars per year. On top of that you don't want to piss of his agent who also happens to be Kevin Love's agent.

Sorry...but any deal bringing him back is a good deal. The talent and production dropoff is vast, if not impossible to reproduce given what's available.
