Heat may amnesty Mike Miller... Any Interest?

Post#1 » by Dre Drummond » Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:04 pm

Heat could save $17 million this year by amnestying Mike Miller and they have Battier and Ray Allen backing up the wing spots already so it appears a team with capspace such as us could be in the position this week to pick up Miller for any bid at the league min or above we choose.

Would you put a $2 or $3 million bid on him? He's hit some big shots in the playoffs for the Heat but he's also been pretty streaky and injured at times too.

Thoughts?

The winning bid on Scola last year was between $3-4 million, if I remember correctly. I bet we could get Miller for less $2 million. I doubt he wants to come here though, I could see NY, Denver, or NJ bidding on him.

Makes no sense. If we pick up a broken down vet it needs to be a PG.

I doubt they do it, but if they did I'd want to know about the injuries that made him miss a chunk of games. Dumars said we had about $4M left, and only teams under the cap can bid on amnestied players, and only under the cap play-off wannabe's would bother bidding.

Depends I guess on if Joe had any leads on trades where we'd need that cap space at the time.

Only teams with capspace can bid on amnestied players so that is only about 5-6 teams left I believe.

Only teams under the cap can bid though. If nobody bids, then he becomes a UFA and capped out teams could use MLE or vets minimum to sign him.

^ Looking at the teams with cap space, I don't see any that would waste money on him - knowing he doesn't want to play for anyone but a contender. Is it possible for an amnestied player to resign with the same team at a more cap friend rate?

1) While we have capspace we don't have any room on the roster for him (we have 16 people right now)
2) Why would we want a 3 point specialist the Heat, a team that NEEDS 3 point shooting, doesn't want?
3) He's had a lot of injury problems since he joined the Heat so I don't see why we'd wanna drop an extra player to sign him for however many games we might get from him.

He's a 42% 3 point shooter and everyone is screaming for shooters but nobody wants to put in a minimum offer for him?

Seems a bit crazy IMO... We'd even be able to trade him if he wanted to be traded.

The heat DO want him but it could save them upto $40 million the next two years to amnesty him because of the new luxury tax rules.

$40 million is ALOT of money for a 15-20 MPG backup on a team loaded with good wing players.

Interesting they'd amnesty Miller and not Joel Anthony, Miller makes slightly more but they'd still save money by chopping Anthony and Miller has come up big for them the last two runs while Anthony can't get off the bench.

You self proclaimed roster gurus are aware that Detroit currently has 16 players right?

They need to cut one now, not even considering going out and signing more washed up role players.

We don't have to be down to 15 for a while. I believe its October. Why not add a talented shooter for the league minimum and worry about cutting someone later if trades don't solve that problem before October.

I'm not sure but I don't think roster room factors into claiming an amnesty victim. As long as you have the roster down to 15 by opening night, I think that's all that matters. Though that may not be accurate, just guessing..... I think Miller would be a nice addition and could start for us at SG though if we could get him. All we need from our starting 2 is play defense and make open shots. He can still do both better than any SG on our roster right now. We need a veteran in the backcourt too, and his versatility defensively goes in line with what Dumars was talking about today.

He would be an amazing fit for us. We should jump all over it if he is amnestied.

Siva and English are easily dropped for the right player.

There is no roster limit right now, they have plenty of time to cut players. They need to have 15 players by the start of the season which is a long long time away.

Also I doubt Siva and English make the team. We can flat out waive English and we can send Siva overseas for example. We can also amnesy CV. So roster spot is not really an issue at all.

He's a good rebounder too for a SG.... and may be willing and happy to come here if he had a chance to fight for a starting spot.

C:Dre
PF:Monroe
SF:Smith
SG:Miller
PG:Knight

Tons of size and rebounding.

The guy can barely move. He's broken and can't even manage 15mpg anymore. He's only useful to a team like the Heat. It makes no sense for a team like ours to go after him. I doubt he would be willing or happy to come here. If he gets amnestied he will likely retire.
