Schroeder signs with Hawks.

Post#1 » by parson » Wed Jul 10, 2013 8:42 pm

Just noticed that Jason Walker reported about an hour ago that Schroeder is tweeting he has signed with the Hawks.

Anybody understand what this means? Is it only for FIBA to allow him to play in Summer League or does it mean we're not going to stash him in Europe?
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I would think it means he's coming over now.

From the AJC: http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/basketba ... ing/nYmC7/
Chris Vivlamore wrote:Hawks first-round draft pick Dennis Schroeder said on socail media that he has signed a contract with the Hawks.

“Its offical ! I signed the contract with the Atlanta Hawks !! Im Glad to be here :-) #ATL” the point guard tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Note: happy face his - in Twitter form.

Goodbye, Mr. Teague . . . and goodbye, SNT for Mr. Jennings. Woulda been nice to have gotten something for Teague but at least we don't have Jennings (I hope!) to deal with.

Now, we have a reason to watch the Summer League games. When are they going to release our roster for the Summer?

wait. I'm not sure it closes the door to all that. we don't have to renounce Teague to sign Schroeder, and it's not like he's expected to start day one.

True, but it ends our pursuit of someone, either Teague or Bynum. We're that close to the edge, capwise.

I don't think the official signing means we're parting with Teague for sure. Apparently Schroeder is raw, and even if he can play and start we can still put Teague at the 2.

We'd be better off cap-wise had we resigned Devin to a cheap contract like the one he signed in Dallas.

He'd be the perfect tutor for Schroeder going forward and he has the size to play SG better than Teague.

We just loose 20% of Schröder cap hold in room, since we were already counting his cap hold and that he certainly signed for 120% of this cap hold (max allowed of the rookie scale)

That's one way of looking it. Another is that we would have saved 100% of his salary off of our cap if we had stashed him. I've been assuming that we were counting all of his money towards getting a FA.

I agree on your POV, but it would have been interesting only if we could sign someone at around 12M and keep or sign-&-trade Teague.
If we target someone for less than 11 or 10M, it doesn't change anything.
Still don't know through who we are targeting.
