WTH Spurs?!? (i.e. Ginobili 2 years $14 million)

Post#1 » by sabonis » Fri Jul 12, 2013 2:52 am

Damn I hate this loyalty thing. Yeah sure Manu had great impact on 3 championships, yes he was a Spur for 11 years, yes Spurs fan loves him but why pay him 14 million for 2 years. We all watched him this year, especially agains the Heat, he's done, stick a fork in him....
Also, the man is rich as hell and then Buford comes out and says "Manu sacrificed a lot, he left a lot of money on the table". Well, how much were you willing to pay to him Mr. Buford, 12 million a year? Oh my god.

I have even harsher thoughts about Splitter's deal. He's a good big man but he doesn't have that much of a great talent that the Spurs should have been afraid to lose, in order to win a championship this year.

I thought the Spurs could have signed Manu for a year about 3 million, let Splitter go and then go after some of the big name free agents in the market. Well, I guess not. Buford, I'm disappoint.

Last 2 years his PER has been over 20 in the regular season. He's not a guy you can throw a near minimum salary at for a year as you try desperately to shed him from your team.

3 million for one of the only 3 players to show up in game 7...in my dreams

losing out on having a starting center for 4 years just so we can build around Al Jefferson as he handcuffs us to a long term deal...no thanks

are you kidding me? Manu was garbage, in fact worse than garbage in all games except the 5th.

also, it's obvious that we're not gonna win a championship once Duncan retires, he deserves one last chance this year, and Al Jeff could have been the answer. If you have a chance to win the championship, you should just try your best to not waste it. Right now I believe this year will be a waste, not worse than Al Jeff giving us a real chance and then handcuffing us for only 1 year, (since he could be traded when his contract is expiring)

Damn why stop at using a game sample size. Go by possession. Timmy missed that gimme layup. Ship his ass out.

Manu went through the whole playoffs on a bad hamstring, and never once blamed the injury when he would struggle. I dislike his theatrics, but admire his toughness.

If he can buck this recent trend and stay healthy by the post-season, then why not? Why not resign him?

I think he's done. He can show flashes from time to time but he's just really injury prone and slow at this point in his career.

The extra money is for appreciating Ginobilli's past years.

Even though he really pissed me off in the Finals, I think this contract is......acceptable..
Manu still has some in the tank.

The guy gave the Spurs a 24 and 10 in game 5 of the finals..

Please, tell me how many players above his contract are able to do it..

I guess they are hoping for one last finals run but honestly I think any longtime fan can see that was the Spurs last chance with the core they have.

basically this contract puts the Spurs in a position to trade Manu easily in the offseason if they don't make the finals again so it ain't that bad in my opinion. If they went out and got a slightly better SG they would at least have to net them on a 4 year deal.

They've been saying this for the past 3 years now. If they can get past/avoid OKC, I can see them back again this season.

Nate Robinson is unsigned and could probably put up at least one monster game in a playoff series.

Ya he had 24 and 10 in one game and then 8 turnovers the next. I seriously do not know of a player that could possibly do that :S

Aside from Lebron's greatness, Manu single-handedly cost the Spurs the championship.

Manu and our inability to play Splitter were our downfalls in the finals. Guess who we paid this offseason?! Yeah I'm a bit confused about it myself. I like the addition of Belinelli, but not the other moves.

Nope. Ray Allen's impossible, falling out of bounds, freakish 3 cost us the championship. That's it.

He's done. He'll have a throwback "Manu" game from time to time, but it's every 10-15 games these days. He's just not what he was. It happens to everyone.
