Hearing: Even before they passed on Andrew Bynum, I'm told Mavs formally reached out to Greg Oden camp this week to formally join Oden race

We're ****, Mavs going after him, and they got tons of money to throw at him.

Don't think for a second the Mavs would toss big money at Oden; Cuban isn't as dumb as he used to be. If we wanted Oden, we would have Oden. His agent has been putting releases out there about his interest in joining the Heat since last summer. Riley ain't buying it, and with a tax bill as high as ours, he's going to cost double no matter what we pay him.

i dont agree with that, Riley didnt work him out for no reason. He also said in his press conference that we're looking into it. I dont doubt that we're interested. I also disagree that if we want him, we'll get him. I dont care how injured hes been. the center market is dry. Teams will be willing to take a risk. A team like the mavs, who has struck out on dwight, AND bynum might be willing to give him money, maybe not ALOT but more than the min. Which is what i assume we're offering. Its going to cost us double, but really? if we sign him to the min, thats 1.7 mil. Not that much, double or not.

If the center market is dry, which I agree with, then its even scarier that Oden hasn't already been nabbed up by some bottom feeder team with cap space. My opinion is that the hesitation is 100% on the Miami end. I hope we sign him, I hope he's great and with how big some of the teams are out there, I hope I'm wrong... but I doubt it.

Miami has a shot but I could see Oden signing with Memphis to play with his boy Conley Jr whose father is Oden's agent.

Assuming good health I think Oden might have some interest in getting quality playing time as opposed to riding the bench for the sake of playing with his boy.

With Mavericks going hard for Dalembert, Cavs saying they're no longer interested and seemingly the only other competition for his services San Antonio who already have a starting center, surely Miami are in serious contention to get him, remembering that San Antonio can only offer the same money with a worse role and location. Mavericks should be out of the race if they sign Dally, if they don't sign Dally we should sign him.

I'm feeling confident that whichever one Dallas nabs, we should get the other.

i'd be surprised if memphis (with hollinger in the FO) wasted resources on another big. they desperately need outside shooting. san antonio exposed them with ease

And what makes you think he wouldn't get any PT in Memphis if he is healthy? Let's be real here, Oden is going to get PT with any team he plays for IF he is healthy and playing good. If anything, Miami has shown to be less flexible with their rotations (Eddy Curry?). If it is about PT, then the Spurs are a better option.

I am not saying that Miami is not his best option but to say that he wouldn't get any PT somewhere else is for the blind. IMO, it is going to come down to playing in a great organization that will have patience, work with him on getting those knees strong and being able to have a role when he's ready. Memphis is a playoff team as well, just like the Spurs, so I wouldn't rule those teams out.

Guys like Oden are never "healthy " though... He's made for a desperate team like Miami, not the Grizzlies where they have Randolph and Gasol.

Miami could really invest the time and patience needed to get him back to strength as much as possible. A place where he'd have a quality role. He'd have to be in really BAD shape to be treated as the 2nd coming of Eddy Curry...

Either way... money might be the one to talk in the end.

well that is hard to know, because we DONT know odens motivations right now. You KNEW Bynums motivations, the dude wanted the money. Oden, im not so sure. Is he all about the money? At this point in his career, is he trying to find the right SITUATION, more than the right paycheck. And from all we've heard, all the teams that are going after him are contenders and not bottom feeders. For whatever reason that may be, we cant predict why oden is still on the market because we dont know what hes looking for.

Thing is, oden prob isnt 100 percent healthy, at least not yet. So going to a bottom feeder, that NEEDS him to play and produce IMMEDIATELY, is probably not the best situation for him. With us, or another contender, we can string him along, he doesnt even have to play that much to start. Which is prob what he would prefer, but like i said, nobody knows but oden

Celtics and Bobcats? lol really? Its between the heat and spurs def

The article also mentions that Oden has not been cleared for contact drills yet, which could be a reason teams havent looked to sign him up. He hasnt been cleared for contact

He would've joined by now. We've been flirting with the idea of signing him for 2 years now and nothing has happened.

Just like dalembert, some scrub team will offer him more money and he will go there.

Oden's agent, Mike Conley Sr., told FOX Sports Florida on Friday he plans soon to resume talks with Heat president Pat Riley, who has been taking care of other business. He said Oden, who hasn't played in an NBA game since December 2009 because of knee injuries, remains very interested in signing with Miami this summer and he believes the Heat want Oden.

"Obviously, they've got a need there," Conley said of a center. "It's a situation where they probably can't go out and get a top player (with the money they have), but they can take chance on somebody like Greg and his upside. The exposure (of playing for the Heat) would be good for Greg. He could work his way back into his game.I think Miami is a good situation."

Last part is pretty interesting imo. It seems it's not about money at all for Oden...

I think that means he's ours if we want him, we'll check him again physically and if we don't pick him up his body is obviously done.

Return to Miami Heat
