Didn't know where to post this since I'm not a Nets fan, so I figure this is as good as any other thread:
(assuming the Boston deal does go through)
If you win a title in the next few years, the trade will have been a success, even if you had to sacrifice some future flexibility.
But if you didn't, at what point would you consider it a failure ? You'd be disappointed like anybody obviously, but if it made you contenders for the years to come, would you think it was a solid trade nonetheless ?

Basically, you went through a couple rough years before coming to Brooklyn, would becoming a good-to-great team be "enough" ?

i dont think its possible for this trade to be a failure...

we increased our short term ceiling, going from complete pretender to fringe contender. long term we gained cap flexibility since wallace ran longer then pierce and KG and the picks we gave up are likely non lottery. we can buy picks for 3M to replace those.

short term we upgraded our ceiling. long term we are in better cap shape. win win

The only way this trade is a failure is if we ship a high lotto pick to Boston in 2017 or 2018.

What if we win a championship this year though (forget the odds for argument's sake)? Is it worth trading high lotto picks if we can squeeze out a championship run?

And what are the chances we actually would have held onto those picks anyway if we didn't make this trade? I'd bet good money that Billy King would have found other trades in which to include them, trades that wouldn't have benefitted us the way this trade can.

Our window of opportunity for a championship before this trade was never open, and that core was only going to stay together for 2 years anyway, before Wallace and JJ become huge expirings, and even Lopez if we were willing to move on from him and clean house. Now, we still have those 2 years, before JJ and Lopez become expirings, and we have a MUCH higher ceiling. Even if we only make 2 deep playoff runs before this core disintegrates, I think this trade was a no-brainer, since we can retool with JJ's expiring and build around Lopez and Deron and remain a playoff team for a few years after that, making the picks in 2016 and 2017 non-lottery. Yes, the 2018 pick could be deadly, but again, if we're successful with this core for the next 2 years, and we can make noise, and say Deron falls in love with this team and is willing to stay on, and is still a pretty good player at that point, we could be a prime destination for free agents and still put out at least a playoff team.

Our cap situation looks a lot better at this point, because we compete for 2 years, and then we can clean house with everyone but Deron and Lopez. You could say financially, it would have worked out the same way before the trade, since Wallace would have been an expiring as well, but at least this way, we have some hope for the next 2 years, and there's no need to bog ourselves down with a terrible contract that marginally improves us in some desperate attempt to compete, like I feel Billy would have done if he kept our original core together.

So I'm FINALLY watching Arrested Development and this is by far the scene that made me laugh the hardest.

I literally had to pause the episode because I was laughing so hard.

Watched that one SCI-FI show Defiance on HULU... Had some promise, but by the end of the season I found myself getting kind of bored with it.

Might give Falling Skies a try or look for a series that has already aired in its entirety... These SCI-FI shows have a tendency to get cancelled mid-run...
