I have been saying all along if he can accept a sixth man role I would love to keep him, but if he sees himself as a career starter he needs to go.

Lets trade Hendo to Detroit for Brandon Knight. Then we can use Brandon Knight as our third string point guard hahahahaha

I hope Hendo understands that if we sign him to the 1-year qualifying offer that he'll likely get limited minutes throughout this season in our logjammed backcourt and less money than the reported multi-year $5.5 million annually deal offered by Cho next offseason from another team.

Did Cho offer 5.5 mill annually?

I can't remember where I read it but it was recent, almost immediately after Cho spoke with his representatives, something to the tone that we're offering him between $5.5-6.5 million annually but his representatives want between $7.5-8.5 million annually and the two parties are far apart.

Have you had much experience in negotiating? To me it is a fair starting point, especially if he is at 8.5-9.5 million, which to me is a slap in the face of the organization. The hope is you eventually meet in the middle.

Rick Bonnell @rick_bonnell

Bobcats spoke with Gerald Henderson's reps today. Positive tone. Team's first preference remains re-signing him.

I think $6 million is fair. $7 million is the loyalty tax. Henderson is a career 11 points per game scorer at the end of the day that hasn't lead any Charlotte team to at least a considerably middling season as a core player yet. He should be happy they aren't lowballing him even more

I agree 7 mil is closer to potentially what he might be worth, if he develops at 3 ball. 4 years in the league talk about potential is really just that, talk. If he doesn't develop that shot he's worth maybe 4 mil so we aren't low-balling him based on his body of work. Fair market price IMO.

Where did you read that? Can't find it anywhere, though if it's a 4-year deal with max raises with a starting salary of 5.5, he'd get roughly 5.9 the next year, 6.3 the next, and 6.7 the final year, average of 6.1 a year, which is low, though it appears his market value is pretty low.

I don't blame Hendo for trying to get more money, as 5.5 is a total low-ball offer, particularly if he doesn't get max raises on top of that 5.5. If we really offered a starting salary of 5.5 and he wants at least 7.5, meeting right in the middle seems pretty fair.

$6,500,000 / $7,000,000 / $7,500,000 / $8,000,000 / $8,500,000 (Team Option) seems perfectly fair both sides.

5.5 is *not* a lowball offer. We all like Hendo, but we also all know his shortcomings. There has been talk about how he would make a good 6th man ... well that's good 6th man money. It's slightly over a mid level exception offer ... which is pretty much his value.

Look at that second offer you list out ending in the 8 mil range. That's 8 mil in years when the team will be trying to resign Kemba, Biz, & MKG ... and with folks like Zeller or other draft picks or potential free agent starting SGs on the way. It's too much.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

especially seeing the market has hinted at Hendo's value by no one chasing him.

I'm sure most GM's offer low amounts to RFA at first, then let them see what the market will give them before deciding whether to match.

Unfortunately for Hendo he didn't seem to get much interest.

Hendo may want to fire his agent, this deal should be simple.

What, you don't think they would trade a rookie #25 pick for a former #12 experienced player for their Win-now team?

Yeah, I don't either. But I would call and ask.

Maybe if Hendo was on a rookie contract, but if that were the case this would all be for naught

That was pretty much my thought.
