Doesn't Miller have a Player's option for 14-15? Not sure how it works, but with our culture. Wouldn't it be a good idea for him not to exercise the option meaning, he can work out on a new contract deal with the following off-season?

The things i hear from Ira and Ethan :

1) We might amnesty Miller (Or Joel) after all - because we do want to offer the MiniMLE to someone. (i think that's probably wise because if we get get a big man for the MiniMLE, it's probably more important then to keep Mike or Joel, sadly)
2) We offerd the MiniMLE to some young wing players (Mayo? Wright?) but they didnt accept.
3)We're not done making moves.
4)We're keeping in touch with Oden's people.

I think the best option is to amnesty JA. Miller is a better and more important player for this team, plus he will have more value as a larger expiring contract next off-season.

I think i'll have to agree.

We have to take a gamble on Varnado, hope he devlops to be AT LEAST as good as Joel.

Then use the money we saved by that move and go get Dalmbert/Oden.

I would also like to buyout JJ and add Clark.

Rio/Cole/Clark
Wade/Allen
Lebron/Miller
Bosh/Battier/UD/Lewis
Dalembert/Bird/Varnado

Project : Oden

that's 15.

Send Ennis to europe, keep his rights and bring him next year when we'll have more spots and he gets better.

Especially since a healthy Miller is a very versatile player. Due to sitting a lot, he looked fresher than ever, so I could see him take on an increased role if necessary. Talent and skill wise, it's not even a discussion between him and Joel.

anybody who is getting their blood pressure up about us not making a free agent signing yet or using our tax payer mid level either isn't clear on Riley's DNA or hasn't been around long enough....

Pat Riley knows what we need. he knows what will help. relax. Riley went all in on a specific player (regardless of position he was trying to add more versatility and shooting you can bet that) and when that player chose not to come to Miami, he chose to stick with the method that helped supplement every championship roster he ever built in Miami....He will "cannibalize the market in August and September" and he said as much to Dan Le Batard.

late July at the earliest....relax.

Agreed that if we can get Dalembert or Oden, we should amnesty Joel.

Pat Riley wants to keep the nucleus of the Miami Heat together despite looming luxury taxes coming next season.

"I want to try to keep this team intact as long as we can, because we have a championship basketball team here," Riley said. "I would hate to break any part of it up, that is productive and leads to winning."

Riley said the Heat have no immediate plan to use their one-time amnesty provision on Mike Miller or Joel Anthony.

"Right now, we're not using amnesty, no," he said, but qualified it by adding, "as of today."

Riley said the Heat tried to land a perimeter player by offering their $3.2 million taxpayer mid-level exception during free agency.

"We weren't successful and we're going to save it, and we will use it if we have to use it, if the right player pops up," Riley said. "I'm not sure that who's available out there are people that we would offer it to now."

Bet Riley tried getting OJ Mayo with that mini exception.

Yep..it kind of makes me wonder how he really feels about the prospect of Wade returning to form if he was willing to throw a fairly considerable amount of cash at a perimeter player even with the guys we already have in our rotation. Unless it was projected as a medium term deal prepping for life without battier, ray, possibly Mike in 2014

Oden is 100 times worse than Eddy Curry's situation. At least in Curry's situation, all he needed to do was lose weight and get in game shape. That's all. And he couldn't even do that for us to the point we could actually play him.

Ya'll really talking about Greg Oden and his knees? The man who hasn't played since 2009. He is nothing more than a project to stick in the bench and hope that he can do something at some point.

But to hear some of you guys actually saying "Oh well, at least we might get Oden" or sticking Oden in Center rotation lineups? Ridiculous. He's a project that might never play another NBA game again. That's the reality and the expectation you must have with Oden. Hope for the miracle, but don't sit here expecting anything.

We can't amnesty Mike Miller. He is a 6'8 SG/SF 3pt specialist. When we get hurt on the rebounds, we just play Mike and we still have lethal 3pt shooting while being able to have another big body out there.

Joel has to go. Saddens me to say it....

and this team won't be able to stick together next year. The new CBA has a bankruptcy inducing REPEATER TAX....... we have to get under the salary cap for 1 year to reset the system.. End of story. Do you know Nets owner is looking at an $80 million TAX BILL next off-season? Yes, 80 mil in simply penalties for being over the cap. The Lakers got a tax bill this week of $30 mil. The Heat got one of $15 mil.

WE CANT AFFORD it. Period. This is why I want to trade Bosh for a real big man who makes less money. Give me a Luc Longley type guy, who can rebound and defend the paint, and has decent hands to catch passes. That would free up our cap space. Bosh is a giant waste of money, just look at the playoffs. 16 mil for 2 offensive rebounds and 0 points. Whatever man. He doesn't fit on this team. Have we really gotten to the point it's ok to pay a player max money when he gets shat on vs any decent big man ?

Oh, what's that? We play Indiana? We play San Antonio? We play Rockets, Memphis, and other teams like that? Time for our max paid player Bosh to have a bad series, watch him get punked like this.

Problem is Miller is making double what Joel is making.

If Mickey eats the bill, why should we care? Of the 2 amnesty options, Joel is best, because Miller is at least useful. I'd like to get Oden as a project because our rotation is set and he has more potential than anyone else we can afford. Just think of it as replacing Jarvis or Juwan. Extremely low risk. We can reset the reset the repeater tax next year when everyone opts out and we rebuild with cheap, going players. Clark and Ennis are probably important in this regard, as are Cole and Chalmers.

Riley has been saying he's not going to amnesty Miller since the amnesty became an option, and I agree with him. If Arison is up for it I won't lose sleep over it, it's his money. But when it comes to basketball reasons amnestying Miller does nothing for us now or in the future. With the big 3 all having opt out options the last message you want to send to them, especially LeBron is that you're not willing to spend to compete. Both championships we've won we don't win without Miller, and he's friends with Bron too.. He's here for the long haul, especially with Allen, Battier and Jones not likely to be with the team after 2014. I thought Joel was going to be expendable because we had Vanado on board, and it pains me to say this but I hope Vanado does not make the team. His man defense is atrocious and so is his rebounding.

Too many of you getting all eaten up about our tax position.

Stop worrying it's not your problem. Arison will do what's necessary.

Personally I don't think we'll Amnesty either Mike or Joel. I do think we'll trade them either this year or next in order to get a player we want - not just to save money.

I like both players but neither are indispensable. And those of you worried that Miller would return and hurt us - get out of here - we KNOW exactly how to neutralise him even if he did get to a team that played us in the PO.

Spo and Riley have a particular need in mind AS WELL AS a big (and probably more so). Evebtually they'll get that sorted just like last year with Bird.

I'm also pretty sure that we'll pick up Oden when WE are ready.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

we own our draft pick next season right??

in 2015 -2016 we will get 2nd rounders from sixers as well.. which should be in range of 30 - 35..
Heat receive the 76ers' 2013 first-round pick (lotto protected 2013,'14,'15) If first round pick has not been received by 2015 becomes 2015 and 2016 second rounders. (#27 pick trade, Moultrie)
