One thing about the Miller situation...

Post#1 » by miami305 » Fri Jul 12, 2013 9:35 pm

One of the reasons why I'd be hesitant to amnesty Miller is of the chance that one of our competitors(bulls, pacers, knicks) picks him up on the cheap and then we would basically be paying him 12 mill to make our opponents better. Even him just coming off the bench for chicago I think would cause great problems for us in the playoffs.

Am I just being paranoid here or is this a legitimate concern? What do you guys think?

Well I guess you don't have to worry about this anymore,
since we won't be using the amnesty after all.

I think there's at least 3 existenting threads where you could have asked that without opening a new one.

Miller does more than shoot. I'm glad he's going nowhere. As it should be.

As I've stated, I feel the biggest reason why Riley hasn't used it on MM is that Shane & Ray are close to retiring. If both decide next year to hand it up, we won't have much depth and Riley needs a backup plan. Next year, we won't have cap space outside of MLE, so having MM for a year gives us another player to hold us till riley gets his second wave of role players in the same way it took him 2 years to get MM, Shane, Ray, Birdman. Add in that MM may have some value and Joel has none, I can see Riley trying to get a Center/PF and using amnesty on Joel.

Good.

I always felt that amnestying Miller would be a very un-Riley thing to do, and it could mess up the chemistry. Remember, the super-friends were not just the big 3. Haslem was friends with Miller, Wade; Miller was friends with Haslem, Lebron and so on and on.

Amnestying Miller would have told Lebron that all that talk about family was just talk, and that money talks louder. Sute, it's a lot of money (and it's not mine), but it's not Miller's fault he got injured, and even injured he delivered some great playoff games, and everytime he plays, he plays with heart.

And even the supposed 17 mil that would have been saved on him, you could look at it like this:

5 mil to Miller (his salary)
12 mil to keep Lebron happy (more than worth it, IMO, since on the free market Lebron would net 50+ mil for sure)

One last thing: I hope the media that kept pushing the "amnesty Miller" idea to stir **** up will just shut the f up now, and the fans that were for it do the same. The Lakers provide enough drama already, so go see who Kobe stops following/unfriends next (Artest ? Pau ?).

PS: Rule no 1 of loyalty towards players should be: if you took a pay cut to come play for us, you will NOT get traded/cut/amnestied (unless you ask for it).

I think Spo likes Joel for this team. He goes into Riley's office every off-season and tells Riley, If you don't find me a center, I will play Joel Anthony and he will embarrass you! Riley then signs; Dampier, Turiaf, Birdman and now this off-season Oden! hahah

Slightly off topic, but anyone notice the end of article where Riley talks about Mid-MLE this off-season? I wonder who that was...

I would guess, Dorell Wright, Andrei Kirlenko or JJ Hickson.

I would keep miller its most likely could be ray and shane last season in the year 2013-2014. I would amnesty Joel '4 Head' Anthony and save some cash. Then we would have 3 open spots left which i think would be filled by Greg Oden and maybe 1 or two summer league players if its two players from the summer league it would be Scotty Hopson and James Ennis. If one of them got hurt it would be Ian clark who would make the team. Those guys could be our future guys maybe not stars but they got alot of upside in their game.

My guess would be Dorell too. Too much history there for Riles not to try.

But Dorell didn't get more than the tax payer's MLE, right?

I would guess Reddick -- can shoot and handle and defend either guard spot. Great fit next to any of our guards.

I'd say OJ Mayo.

And whoever keeps saying that Miller is being kept for when Ray and Shane retire, I'm sorry I can't agree. They can both give more than Mike, Mike should retire before them.
