So it's totally safe to assume that we'll wind up doing something like Vesely/Singleton/second rounder for Blair, followed by all three assets going on to be quality role players for the Spurs while Blair is forced to retire after eight games due to career ending surgery, right?

I would trade Booker for Blair in a heartbeat. Trevor is in a contract year. Booker is good and I agree, underrated, mhd. He's also missed a lot of games injured. The main reason I would definitely trade him is his minutes would disappear.

Singleton for Blair is a no-brainer.

Ariza makes far more money and can only be traded if SA includes salary to match.

The trade I suspect will happen is Kevin Seraphin for Blair, which even though Blair is better probably helps SA a lot.

Hopefully it's Vesely. Vesely is the one who has voiced displeasure with how he's been coached here, so dealing him would make sense. It's a shame to give up on a #6 pick, but I think most fans would be happy to get Blair.

I actually am probably the last man on earth who still thinks Vesely is a serviceable NBA player. I think since he's got one more year on his deal, I would wait and see if he can't be moved for someone like Derrick Williams later.

Super, most fans would be ECSTATIC to see Vesely gone and you're right about him coming out and expressing dissatisfaction. If he did get traded for Blair, I predict the Spurs would figure a way to make Jan successful. Wizard fans would love Blair. Could be a win win deal Vesely for Blair.

However, I can't see the Spurs making that deal. League-wide Jan Vesely is considered a disaster and a bust IMO.

I know you like to have your lone wolf views, but no... you are not.

Actually all of Ves, Singleton, Booker and Kevin likely have better basketball days ahead of them.

The issue is how well can players like them can develop on a team that is developing. Fit and timing has a lot to do with it.

Singleton and Booker are probably the two that can get there the fastest. I see both as more mentally mature. Kevin and Ves are the bigger projects, but probably have more upside as well. They would both probably benefit from a fresh start elsewhere were a team can start the clocks over on them. They need another 2-3 years. Just not sure the Wizards have that much more time to invest in them. Specially when you add Booker and Singleton as projects and they just added another rookie to a team that has two really young stars.

I said before when people spoke about bring Cousins here, I don't think the Wizards, as young as they are at PG, SG and SF can add young like Cousins to the front court. Splitter 28 and Blair, a mature 24 would just about perfect.

And its a 3-2 trade which lower the Wizards cap money and opens another slot to add a vet min contract if needed.

Make it happen Ernie. You have insider connection to SA on your coaching staff.

Randy Wittman thinks the Washington Wizards need to upgrade their frontcourt to include a power forward who can stretch opposing defenses.

“We do have to look probably at a bigger, from a bigger standpoint, maybe adding someone to the frontline of that nature. See if we can do that,” Wittman said. “We need to find a stretch-four. That’s always good to have the ability to go big, which we can obviously with Emeka (Okafor), Nene or Kevin (Seraphin). A situation where you can bang people, but you also want to have the ability where you can stretch the floor especially with the players we have now on the perimeter with John (Wall) and Bradley (Beal).”

The Wizards appear set in the backcourt and at the wing positions, but remain unsettled down low.

“We need to continue to see if we can add a piece to this team, whether that’s through picking up a free agent or a trade or making a move like that,” Wittman added. “I don’t think we’re going to relax now and we shouldn’t.”

Scraps?

Ariza already has a ring that he won with the Lakers, and he played an integral role.

Seraphin is a double figure scorer and a load on the low block. He's a much more fluid athlete and a far better scorer than Splitter. He speaks French, as do Parker, Diaw, DeColo, and their first round pick, Livio-Jean Charles. Kevin has played with these guys already.

Vesely ... is tall. :D Seriously, this is what Vesely was prior to being a Wizard.

JAN VESELY BIO:

PROFESSIONALLY: Has played professionally in Slovenia and Serbia, including Euroleague action for Partizan Belgrade from 2008-2011. Averaged 10.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in 2010-11. Was named the FIBA Young Men’s Player of the Year in 2011 (top player born in 1990 or later), edging out three-time winner Ricky Rubio of Spain. Has connected at a .500 clip or better from the field in every season in his professional career. Finished second in voting for the Euroleague’s Rising Star trophy (top player under 23 by July 1) in 2009-10 and third in 2010-11.

AFM, Vesely on the Spurs would become a former Wizard. Blatche is beloved in Brooklyn. McGee, for better or worse, is going to start for Denver. Nick Young is a Laker. Former Wizards tend to have nice careers elsewhere.

I truly believe the Spurs would entertain this deal and possibly be very happy they did.
The Wizards shoukd have drafted Derik Queen

Scraps? For Splitter getting Ariza, Seraphin, and Vesely seems more than fair to SA to me.

I sure hope not.

For me, if Splinter isn't in the deal, then we should be talking to Houston.

I think Super put together a good package that works for both team.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/94452 ... onio-spurs

Splitter will receive a four-year, $36 million contract.

Has anyone run the numbers to see if this would work ? Seems we are sending out more salary then we are getting back.

Trevor A 7.7M, Kevin S 2.7M, Ves 3.5M vs Splitter 9M and Blair 2M? -- opps. Edited after CCJ correct the numbers. But what is Splitter in year one of that deal ? Like 7.5M

Looks like it should be in the ball park.

Splitter's making 9M per now. 36/4=9

Honestly, I'm hoping for just Blair and the Wizards keeping Ariza for a better deal. I do like Super's trade, but hope for a simpler swap.

Good post, hands. It is time for the Wizards to make the leap. It has to be this year, but they need better depth against injuries to Nene and Wall (which Maynor might mitigate some). Splitter and Blair both know how to play already. The young guys for the Wizards have size and upside, and they've never been in a system with nothing but winners like the Spurs. I think they would shine.

If Ernie makes this happen dude can keep his job as far as I'm concerned. I am going to have to forget the past, because the recent moves are trending in the very solid direction for sure.

PS -- Re. Lone Wolf CCJ -- I will stand alone in my views with conviction at times, but most of the time I'm really frustrated others don't see things my way. Faried was a no brainer to me. I didn't feel good at all when folks thought Singleton was a better pick. Same with Pecherov over Millsap. I'm not just crying wolf with my views. :)

He would be a really nice fit on the Wizards.

Right in his prime.
Can run with a Wizard team that would run.
Tall enough and big enough.
Mature. Smart.

He would fit real nice with Nene and Okafor.

Wall/Maynor/Temple
Beal/Glen/Temple
Webster/Otto/Singleton
Nene/Blair/Booker/Singleton
Okafor/Splitter

13 players with two slots open. Room to pick up another center that gets cut after all the summer stuff.

And Splitter and Blair have played together so they would be a solid front court for the second unit. They can also resign Okafor for less and have Splitter start.

That would be a very solid team. And Singleton still might show some S4 this year. And Otto might have some of that in him. If not, you find one.

Defense, running, rebounding, shooting. maturity, upside, length, girth. Not to young. Not to old. Fewer projects.

That team has a really nice balance. And it really clears the way for Wall, Beal and Otto to shine with Webster having a strong role as a shooter. And it opens things up for Glen. And we are much better protected against injury to the front court.

Not to go too far with it, but maybe could then parlay Booker/Singleton for a stretch 4 like DWill. They were two of Saunder's favorites while he was here. Gives the Wolves some flexibility. Probably have to include future lottery protected pick. But Okafor/Splitter at C, and Nene/DWill/Blair at PF would be solid.

You know what. I think you might be right there. That one trade would balance the Wizards to win now and clean up what looks to be picks, that might be good players, but are questions that won't likely get answer while they are here.

I would call it cleaning up a mess, but I don't see it as a mess as much as just bad timing for those players. To many projects on a team that was changing to much. Still would have rather they draft Nikola, but then who knows the ripple effect of that. We did get Beal and we did get Otto. Thats what we have and they are looking like great pieces.

So we zigged and zagged, but if the team ends up like the one I listed, it would he hard to say Ted/EG/Wittman did get us there in the end.

Its a long and windy road sometimes. Thats why I preach patience in the middle of a rebuild. Hard to predict how things will play out. It was 3 year min baseline rebuild plan from the day Ted took over. Had to keep your eyes on that.

To much change. First give your reminding young projects that are left a chance to do that and keep your pick. Wall, Beal and Otto need their first year playoff experience. That aren't going straight to the finals. They will make mistakes. This years goal should be to get them them in solid fashion. Need to get in that 4 o 5 seed and try to make it out of the first round if possible. Thats as far as they likely could go year one.

Dude, you hit a bottom of the 9th home run. Watch it sail over the fence.

Drop the bat and walk off the field.

Splitter is there to run with the runners, cut, play solid, etc.

Deal would bring Splitter AND Blair, adding a nice mix of skills.

Splitter would be on the court with the likes of Blair, Nene, Booker, Okafor at all times. He would mesh well with any of them IMO.

Question...

Why would we want a player cast off by SA (a model franchise with a history of recognizing talent) and offer any value for him? The Spurs are not terribly deep in the post and yet they're willing to let him walk. That should tell us all we need to know IMO. I'm not convinced Blair would make any more difference to this incarnation of the Wizards than Booker.

I would trade 2nd rounders or Singleton. That's it. SA would probably value the second rounders more considering their history.

If not, you find one.

Defense, running, rebounding, shooting. maturity, upside, length, girth. Not to young. Not to old. Fewer projects.

That team has a really nice balance.

To much change. First give your reminding young projects that are left a chance to do that and keep your pick.

Dude, you hit a bottom of the 9th home run. Watch it sail over the fence.

Drop the bat and walk off the field.

True. Plus I actually like the versatility of Nene, Blair, Booker, Singleton at PF. Also given the past health, the depth here would be welcome. I like that after Nene with his myriad of skills, we can come in with the meat and potatoes with Blair or Booker, or the D of Singleton to match up with a perimeter 4.
