Final Roster Spots

Post#1 » by One Love » Sat Jul 13, 2013 8:10 pm

Lets assume Farmar joins Young & Kaman once the buyout with his Turkish team is finalized... We also need to assume Kobe will play allot of SF this year and our contracts will be one year vet min deals with a focus on length, speed & youth... I believe we still need a stretch PF & another solid wing that has the length to play some SF... The following is a list of candidates for discussion...

1. LO 6'10" PF.
2. K Mart '6'9" PF.
3. Austin Daye 6'11" PF.
4. EB 6'8" PF.
5. Tyrus Thomas 6'7" PF.
6. Antwan Jamison 6'9" PF.
7. Anthony Tolliver 6'9" PF.
8. Wesley Johnson 6'7" SF.
9. James Johnson 6'9" SF.
10. Devin Ebanks 6'9" SF.
11. Stephen Jackson 6'8" SF.
12. Corey Maggatte 6'6" SF.
13. Mickeal Pietrus 6'6" SF.
14. Mickael Gelabale 6'6" SF.
15. Ronny Brewer 6'7" SG/SF.
16. Sonny Weems 6'6" SG/SF.
17. Terrence Williams 6'6" SG/SF.
18. Sasha Vujic 6'6" SG/SF.
19. Chris Douglas Roberts 6'7" SG/SF.
20. Alan Anderson 6'6" SG/SF.

I would personally pursue Austin Daye (preference) or LO for my stretch PF & Wesley Johnson (preference) or James Johnson for my SF... All four of those players are solid shooters, athletic and multi dimensional players with upside (LO will be better than last year)... My lineup would be as follows:

PG: Nash & Farmar
SG: Kobe, Meeks & Blake
SF: Young, Wesley/Johnson
PF: Daye/LO, Hill & Kelly
C: Pau, Kaman & Sacre

I will defer to the mods if they want to move the post but I do think having an updated list of available players warrants a discussion... Our roster is almost set... In Mitch we trust... Lakeshow...

We need defenders badly because we lost our best 3 in Howard, Clark and Metta. That should be our priority unless a offensive juggernaut comes up and I don't see one on that list.

James Johnson, Brewer & Pietrus are all solid defenders... James Johnson is an elite defender... Strong, long, quick and explosive... He would be a great pickup...

I think Douglas-Roberts and Lazar Hayward will both make the team. They're on the summer league roster.

Wing player that can play d. Lets not bring LO back just because he's LO. Improving our permiter D should be the priority right now.

Lamar and/or Kenyon
- Lamar improves the pick and roll d and glass work, and can rebound and push
- Kenyon can defend the post one or one or he can switch on perimeter guys

Sasha, Nate, or Pietrius are ideal for a perimeter spot

I hope we carry 14 and let Kelly and Sacre get a full year of NBDL time as starters when Kobe returns

I liked Sonny Weems before he went overseas due to the lockout. I think he would be a steal if we managed to get him. LO of course and probably Brewer.

I've always liked Weems' scoring and athleticism.

Other guys I wouldn't mind to sign are Wes Johnson or James Johnson. J. Johnson would be a good PF for small ball in D'Antoni's system and he's a good defender.

This is our roster as of today:

Nash/Farmar/Blake
Bryant/Young/Meeks
Johnson
Hill/Kelly
Gasol/Kaman/Sacre

12 under contract, with a glaring hole at SF and in need of big man depth as well. Blake and Meeks are both expiring and should be considered expendable at this point to fill some of these holes. Let's take a look at FA options first, taking into consideration our biggest needs are another wing and a backup rotation big.

Free agency
-Kenyon Martin
-Lamar Odom
-Xavier Henry
-DeJuan Blair
-Chris Douglas-Roberts (SL)
-Marcus Landry (SL)
-Elias Harris (SL)
-Michael Snaer (SL)
-Stephen Jackson
-Sam Young
-Austin Daye
-Cartier Martin
-James Johnson
-Elton Brand
-Corey Maggette
-James Jones
-Al Harrington
-Tyrus Thomas
-Shawne Williams

Trade (Blake/Meeks package)
-Brandon Rush
-Linas Kleiza
-Mirza Teletovic
-Ekpe Udoh
-Charlie Villaneauva
-Gerald Green
-Trevor Ariza
-Jan Vesely
-Channing Frye
-Caron Butler
-Michael Beasely
-Matt Bonner
-Marvin Williams
-Kent Bazemore
-Jordan Hamilton
