Let's frame it like this; teams frequently draft and start rookies who are "worse" than the incumbent starter. Why? Because they already know that the incumbent isn't good enough and the rookie they just drafted has potential. This is no different.

If Jerebko has already peaked, then color me unimpressed. He is easily replaceable. Better to give somebody else a shot then continue to roll with the guy we know isn't good enough. Mitchell will struggle and may ultimately prove to be a worse player, but I'll live with that. It's like firing a crappy coach and rolling the dice on an assistant or collegiate coach; better to try something new than continue to do what you know doesn't work.

I'm pretty down on JJ at the moment, in case you can't tell. And I really was a HUGE Jerebko fan. Truly. Kid has disappointed me.

Edit: If Mitchell can develop a consistent jumper(and play with a solid motor), then we've got ourselves a HUGE steal in the 2nd round.

This whole notion that we can have try outs during the season is really misguided. Fact of the matter is , is that if mitchell is so much better than JJ and/or brings more to the table than JJ, then he'll easily get his shot, but it'll be in practice, not the game. My problem is that everyone is basing Mitchells ability at the next level based on Summer league cames that are considered the preseason to the preseason. No one has seen mitchell against NBA level competition , yet he's ready to get significant minutes? This reminds me of posters saying Siva is our future pg. (not saying your saying that)

i don't get why you think Mitchell is just going to be a diamond on our bench that we'll never get to know what he really can do because he's behind JJ/CV. If during the season our front court play is horrendous and they don't make a change, then i'll feel more of a need to voice that mitchell should at least get a shot, at this point, i haven't seen him play against significant competition , so i'm going with the incumbent players

1.) i'm right there with you bud, i thought he could be our perfect bench guy that does a little bit of everything

2.) he was coming back from a achilles tear, its actually a bigger factor to his decrease in production than ppl think

3.) Frank and him apparently had a very poor relationship, and Frank didn't play JJ to his strengths. i still think JJ can provide valuable minutes, and this year will be his trial.

He seemed consistent throughout college and the summer league in my eyes.

He dropped to the 2nd rd for the simple reason that he was the exact opposite of consistent in college.

I'd be pretty shocked if he was rotation worthy from day one but hopefully by the end of the year he can play his way into the 9th or 10th man in the rotation minutes.

I do feel like Monroe and Smith will get the overwhelming majority of minutes at the PF spot if both are healthy but depending on matchups there may be a few extra minutes available.

Mitchell measured 6' 8.75" in shoes at the combine.

Add in he has a 7' 2.5" wingspan and 8' 10.5" standing reach....he's not undersized to be an NBA PF.
