Horford, Milsap, Brand
i think Ferry wants to build a team of Power Forwards. I guess he has something in mind, but we are already very strong in this position. Maybe he is figuring that since we cant get a true center, we can stock up on 4s who can play the 5?

Re: Horford, Milsap, Brand
One of the side effects of being part of the Popovich-Buford tree is that DF isn't looking at positional labels as he does roles. For example, the Spurs don't have an explicit backup small forward but they lump together wings and bigs as categories, so Pop has the option of going small (playing Green, Ginobili, or Belinelli at the 3) or going big (Diaw at the 3).
I surmise Ferry saw them as cornerstone (Horford), hustler (Millsap), and rim protector (Brand).

I was hoping for someone with some length, but oh well.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Sounds about right. Spurs did start 6'9" Dejuan Blair at Center for a full season.
Losing Zaza hurts more and more. We need height.
For the record, I really like what Elton brings to the table. He is just very, very short.

fwiw, for someone 6'9" Brand has a mightily long wingspan.
And Blair's only 6'7".

Re: Horford, Milsap, Brand
Elton Brand actually played about as well as you could possibly expect for a 34 year old PF last year... I think it's a good veteran signing, and he might even teach Al how to really bang in the post.
BTW I think we need to come to terms with Al manning the 5. In the modern NBA he's a C.

Take it from someone who has followed Elton since college, he ain't 6'9".
But yes, his wingspan is impressive.

Frontcourt now includes : Horford, Milsap, Brand, Muscala, Mike Scott.
Not one of these guys is a pure Center.

Roy Hibbert just chuckled.
Brook Lopez just licked his chops.
Asik just grabbed yet another offensive rebound.
Tyson just pulled out his championship ring and Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Marc Gasol just blocked another shot.
Joakim just made a weird face.
Bebe just asked his interpreter what you're smoking (n Portugese).

If Elton can teach AL a single reliable post move, this signing will be worth it.

Re: Horford, Milsap, Brand
Good signing, but still doesnt address our C concerns. I think this basically affirms if Ferry cant get the C he wants, he wont sign that position.
Lets not forget we didnt really have a C last year either, Zaza being hurt for what almost 2-3 months?
I would LOVE to see us sign SOMEONE though over 6'9''. Dont care who it is as long as its cheap

Ferry loves PFs as much as BK loves SFs.

I also think I heard Tiago Splitter might actually try to dunk the ball because he's so wide open on the P&R lol.

Chris Bosh just screeched and dino-walked over with his 2 rings.
KG just screamed in a point guard's face.
Look, I'd love for us to get a guy like Drummond at the C, but you don't need a huge man in the middle to win it all anymore. This league is increasingly being built on shooting and spacing and slashing, and a guy like Horford does just fine at doing all the necessary C things.

Re: Horford, Milsap, Brand
Celtics have been running KG at the C for years now and have been a high level team with excellent defense, they've been sucking offensively because Rondo can't hit a jumpshot to save his life.
OKC's best lineups are with Perkins off the floor.
Denver started Koufos all of last year, who's solid but hardly a standout.
Warriors ran a one-armed Bogut or a scrub Ezeli, both of whom scored so little and at such bad efficiency that it would make Zaza look like Hakeem in comparison.
