Made this thread on another site, wanted to share w y'all.

Call it an over reaction if you want to but I feel I have a good eye for talent, anyway, just saw a few Summer League games and I gotta say hopefully the Hawks matched Teague's offer sheet to trade him cause damn they coulda save a buck or two by letting him go cause this kid Dennis Schröder looks like he's gonna be the goods.



6'2" broad shoulders, wiry strong build, long arms, excellent excellent defender, kid has great foot speed and able to stay with other PG's, and strong enough to not get pushed around cause these grown men were definitely trying to.

Hawks should let this kid take the keys to the team and let him run the show cause he ready. I'm seeing young Gary Payton.

Teague is a good player etc, not a $42M player (God bless him, he got paid) but I don't see special or that "it" factor like I see in Dennis.

Congrats Hawks, y'all gonna have a helluva player on your hands for awhile.

He is clearly not ready to run the team at an nba level so thats why we matched teague. i say we trade teague 2 years into his contract

Lots of people can have that "it" factor after a couple of summer league games. I want to see him get some playing time against real NBA talent, but I don't think he's anywhere near enough to be The Man at point.

But we believe he needs ore time to develop. New team. New country. New league. And he needs t hit the gym.

really? Matching Teague was the only decision DF has made since the draft that I completely understand.

I just find it odd we committed a four year obligation to a young PG, when we potentially have a better one in the wings. Especially since Teague wants to leave, and ESPECIALLY since we virtually ignored Teague through the first two weeks of Free Agency.

Ferry basically treated Teague the same way he treated Drew when he was looking for other coaching candidates.

And I don't get why he keeps treating these guys like crap. Then waiting til the last minute to match the offer and forcing him to stick around. Just seems counter to building a culture of committed, dedicated players.

Also, Teague's $8 million + $9million given to Milsap could have been used to address positions of need: Center and SF.

Ferry was treating him that way in order to try to lower Teague's price. Notice how he bragged on him only after committing to him.

And 3 years would have been better, but the contract's good enough. If Teague grows, he can still be our PG. If he doesn't / can't, he is really good trade fodder. Meanwhile, he's allowing Schroder to grow. Eventually, we're going to trade one of those 2. May the winner be a star; may the loser find a good team and be happy.

Schroder looked better than Trey Burkes IMO

I thought ATl was rebuilding but the signing of Milsap and Teague changes that

Teague was matched to mentor Schroder and give him some time to develop and then be traded for, at the very least, a first round pick. We weren't really gonna use that 8 mil this year for anything big so might as well use it to get Schroder's mentor and some good trade bait.

What's ironic is that this season, like last, we will be two deep at PG & PF. But have no SF or Center.

All that cap space and we built a team almost identical to last year's. but minus Zaza.

Schroder looked better than Trey Burkes IMO

Schröder not only looked better but showed he is better, Trey looked scared and tentative, Dennis didn't, not at all. Trey got physically man handled and pushed around, Schröder didn't.

Not sure if some of you guys commenting saw the Summer League games he's played in and are just going by his stats or highlights or even worse his Nike Team clips and if so, you got him twisted.

And Summer League is where Damian Lillard and other guys went out and dominated and Schröder is showing he is far more composed than many of those vet and younger players out there competing for roster spots cause he didn't rush anything, ran the offense, knew when to push tempo and when to slow it down, and more importantly knew how to defend his position very easily.

He's gonna give Teague fits in practice, hope they show y'all on NBATV Training Camp, and I think Teague is a pretty nice young PG but Schröder could do what Teague does at 1/8th the cost and he's shown to have a higher bball IQ in my eyes as well.

Don't take this as a jab at Jeff Teague either, just stating what type of player he is and most of those assists in the above clips woulda been shots by Teague, clips was just to show how well he runs an offense, is heady, etc.

Just would've liked to have seen defensive clips in there, not just steals but body position etc, that's where I see the Payton comparison cause that's exactly what GP would do to ballhandlers.

Anyway watch the kid play if you're able to, gonna be nice, STEAL of the draft.

I agree this kid is the future of the franchise and a future allstar imo, his game is so similar to rondos its scary. I expect Teague to get traded by next year. I know once they give Schroder the keys, hes gonna struggle at first but it will pay off. I was shocked how comfortable he looked in his first summer league game coming from another country and now playing against men I thought he would look out of place but his handles are elite, vision is elite, speed is elite, hes the real deal. looked 10x better than trey burke.

^I'm all about patience.

But as usual, numbers don't tell the whole story.

Schroeder is a pure PG. Teague came into the league as a scorer, not a floor general.

Schroeder is light years ahead of where Teague at a similar point in his development. His experience playing as a pro will help his transition also. Teague came into the league immature and unfocused. It's the real reason he sat on the bench as a rookie.

Schroeder seems like a prodigy. But, yes, more time is needed.

I understand what you're sayin' but really.... comparing a 19yr old kids Summer League stats to a 25 yr old (maybe 24yrs old at the time) kinda makes my point even more.

Maybe you can't but I clearly see he has more command and control of his game than Jeff Teague has and it shows with his teammates and yeah they may be SL rookie or 2nd yr players but the point is offensively (since you compared stats) you can see he is a willing passer already, Teague is a good passer and a good player but I see a clear and distinct difference between the 2.

Not trying to convince you cause maybe eventually you'll see it, just stating I see it now, don't wanna talk about possibilities Hawks coulda done cause they matched Teague, just saying it coulda been prevented.

Since it hasn't, you guys could easily trade a good young PG like Teague for a SF or C and maybe even vet backup PG.
