1) When do they start playing - 2013 season or 2014 season and at what level/league?

2) For somebody like Tellez who had a commitment to USC,, what does the signing mean? Does he still go to college and play baseball in the summer or does he start playing full time?

1) Quite a few draftees have already started playing in the system... Brentz/Tellez will likely get into some games in the GCL within the next two weeks

2) no, they enter the system full time... guys like Brentz/Tellez would likely stay in extended ST next year and then go to short season

The exception here is two sport athletes like Alford, where part of them signing would have the team give them permission to go to school and play their other sport

Thanks for clarifying and you preempted my question about guys like Alford, who I know were going to school.

There is always exceptions to the rule. When my friend got drafted by the Jays, they let him finish his degree while playing in shortened seasons and going to extended spring training instead of going to minor league spring training.

Some teams I've heard will even pay for your schooling if you play in their system.

He wasn't a reach in the BJ's eyes; and their selection of him was clearly under the "educated guess" that his ~$4.25 million demands were bogus and that he ultimately wouldn't turn down ~$3 million.

Why take the risk? Because The Jays apparently dont put much care into risk. See: the fact that they keep drafting and signing injured prep pitchers.

Hasn't Anthopolous always said that they are going BPA and wave the money infront of them and it is up for them to take it or leave it.
I know thats an extreme, but werent we the same group of fans who were complaining with the JP easily signable playerS?

I like the idea anyways, i mean getting a player who will make it to the MLB level is already rare why not go for BPA and trust yourself that you can sign him.

This is a great point. JP's draft strategy was to get guys who would sign, while AA goes after the highest ceiling player.

I have no problem with a top pick not signing. This years draft class was called "weak" by a few scouts.

Ricciardi was a terrible drafter for the most part, but it was Paul Godfrey who did not want to go overslot in the draft, so the Jays had to get players who would sign for slot or below. Things changed when Beeston replaced Godfrey.

If AA was working under the same criteria that Ricciardi had, he likely would have drafted much better talent, but not to the extent that he did pre-CBA change.

Yup. It'd be nice if there was at least a multi-year exclusivity to the draft picks.
