Re: Official 2013 Off-Season Thread.
Ok, so I have just been reading and not posting much this week. The following is what I see the lineup being for mavs.
Calderon/Mekel/Larkin
Ellis/Ellington/Ledo
Marion/Carter/Crowder
Dirk/Wright/Brand
Dally/James
My projected roster for 2014 of current players
Larkin/Mekel
Ellis/Ellington/Ledo
Crowder
Dirk/Wright
Dally.James
Interesting turnover of the enitre guard corps. I have never seen that before. Also, none of these signings are one year. Not sure that makes a difference to any of the 2014 FAs. These signings are not my favorite guys, and a little short, but we will see what happens. Can this team make the playoffs? Do any youngs get time? Will we ever see Ledo except in Frisco? Can Wright give mavs 25+ mins per night to fill the bigs void? I think those starters, despite their age, will play alot, and with avg age around 33 or 34, that is not a good sign. Will Ellis play PG ever? He may have to
Does Ellis help draw in any FAs in 2014? Does Larkin help draw in FAs in 2014 when he shows what he can do? What/how long will dirk sign for? Does Marion come back after this upcoming season? Who else can mavs sign for 2013, like a big project?
As Dirk famously quoted, Hope is not a strategy. This offseason, a week into it, has been pretty poor, with old small signings and not much else looking forward. Glimmer of hope with Ellis in the fold, who should be good for some entertaining scoring nights. While this is fun projections, I like when a team can build and add to existing talent, which under the current rules is impossible for mavs with the big contracts to old players of Dirk and Marion.

Not possible due to Cuban.

Not possible due to KMart sucking.
Dallas would have just paid Brand to stay if the PF/undersized C was a position of need.
I am assuming Dallas will sign a couple full sized centers and play Marion at backup PF and maybe some Wright.
Marion is a little undersized at PF but still better than Brand or Kenyon.

Seriously, I think we should bring in Dejuan Blair as the backup PF.
At least he scores inside and rebounds well and Wright could concentrate on the backup center minutes. If he doesn't pan out, you can play Marion behind Dirk as well.

Yes !!! I thought this way as well
Calderon/Mekel/Larkin
Ellis/Ellington/Ledo
Marion/VC/Crowder
Dirk/Blair
Dalembert/Wright/James
it's not bad !!

Re: Official 2013 Off-Season Thread.
Question about Wright: I seem to get that the consensus about him everywhere around the league except in Dallas is that he's better suited as a power forward than a center. Of course, behind Dirk, he's going to get minutes in Dallas at the 5.
Do we want him exclusively as a center? Is there a reason why we would need a backup to Dirk other than Wright specifically so he can play the 5? (This assuming we're capable of bringing in a real center or two like Dalembert or Oden.)

Wright can play both center and PF if he comes back. I know he has been pigeon-holed into the center position here but that doesn't mean he's exclusively a center.
Just like VC sometimes plays the SF position it just depends on who is on the court at the time Wright is. I do see Wright playing center most of the time he is on the court though since he is most effective alongside Dirk (although he is capable of playing PnR with the guards).

Should Dallas show any interest in Mike Miller?

Miller would be great off the bench in that Peja type role and added depth.
Dallas should highly consider making room for someone who can hit 40% from beyond the arc.

Calderon + Carter + Ellington hit a combined 5 threes a game on 42% 3pt shooting in 2012-13, I think we're set as far as efficient outside shooters in the lineup and off the bench. (Hopefully well enough to allow/force Monta to drive to the basket.)

I think he is definitely a guy we should look at. He's not a Pop type player, but when he did get minutes he produced. You have to do a short term deal due to his knees but he's definitely worth a look.
If we could add 2 of Oden, Dally, Blair we could probably patch the center position together. Not ideal but an improvement over last year.

Blair+Wright+Daly !
Good rotation at the 4&5 spot with Dirk + James + these 3 guys

Re: Official 2013 Off-Season Thread.
I think Cap Jack would be perfect fit. We've got 27th points allowed last season. With Calderon and Ellis starts, our defense is virtually non-existent. Knowing RC, I think either would be benched. We need a solid defender that can play some PG. Cap Jack would be a nice fit. So we can have Daly-Dirk-Matrix-Jack-Ellis. Or on some occasions when we need a 3, we can have Dirk-Jack-VC-Ellis-Calderon. That's a solid flexibility move. Jackson's brightest year start under RC. I think he won't ruin the chemistry there. Actually, I want to undo Ellington's contract for him. So we've enough room to sign another big.

The Mavs apparently made an offer to Leandro Barbosa! The last thing we need is another combo guard. If we sign him and Harris, there will be no playing time for the rooks at all.

Good grief no... He is coming off a serious knee injury and his career has basically relied on speed, which should now be diminished.
PASS!
BTW Darren what the hell are you drinking, all of your posts leave me scratching my head...

According to Marc Stein Mavs waived Bernard James to sign Ellis!
