Wow Bucks amnesty Gooden. Good on Herb Kohl for writing that check. This helps them moving forward.

Who would have predicted that?
Strange timing considering they haven't been able to give away the salary cap space they still have. But cap room does have a way of coming in handy during the season - especially when another team is desperate to avoid the lux tax.

What teams actually have their amnesty provision left?

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

There are 10 teams left:
New Orleans Pelicans - no players eligible
spurs - only parker
hawks - horford
celtics - bradley, rondo
jazz - hayward, favors
memphis - ZBo
OKC - Perkins
SAC - Salmons
CHI - Boozer
Pistons - Charlie V

Gooden might be a guy worth picking up for the vet minimum. He's a good rebounder and a very good midrange shooter (at least he was through 2012). He's a horrible defender though.
Ruzious, what happened to Gooden last year? His production fell off a cliff. Injuries?

No injuries were reported. I think he just saw the writing on the wall that he was going to be out of the rotation, and he gave up - knowing he was going to get paid handsomely for 3 years, regardless. The year before, he had some interesting games including a triple double. He was a lot like Blatche. If you're a Blatche fan, you might like Gooden. Otherwise, stay away - which is what I'd do - even for the vet minimum.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 3
Did he give up or was he taken out? I don't think Gooden has a history of petulancy like Blatche had. I think he's worth picking up. He'd be automatically the 3rd best big on our roster.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 3
In the few minutes he got last season, Gooden was even worse than the Ernie Kids. But, he's had several average to above-average seasons. I'd steer clear -- the Wizards don't need to add a guy who quits when things get tough. Plus, he's been dumped now by several teams, including stops where he was actually playing decent basketball. He must be difficult to deal with.

He has a strange history of his career. I don't know of any personality or off-court issues. His numbers looked productive, but he kept getting traded. He has played for 9 teams(and was on the Wizard's roster for 4 days).

Looks like the only teams left that would actually use it are the Pistons or OKC.

Agreed. He's had a rep for being mentally weak going all the way back to his Kansas days. He's not the type of guy you'd want in the bunker with you when things get tough. I wouldn't touch him.
I'd much rather find away to get Nate Robinson so we aren't relying on Maynor & Temple as our 3rd & 4th guards.

Gooden's probably headed to MIA or LA (either one) for the minimum.

The Lakers would make a lot of sense. They need a placeholder big and he probably wants minutes/touches to get one last decent sized contract.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 3
Hmmm...been mulling over the Gooden amnesty. Not sure how much cap space MIL actually has now, but here's a thought:
Ilyasova+pick for Rondo+Wallace+Bass? Upgrades MIL at PG and fills their hole at SF, with Wallace's deal expiring at the same time as Mayo's. The Celtics get a young big to be part of the rebuild and they get out of some other longterm contracts.
Sanders/Udoh
Henson/Bass
Wallace/Delfino
Mayo/Delfino
Rondo/Ridnour
That's a pretty good defensive team with solid outside shooting off the bench. Mostly young, too.
EDIT: Boston, at this point, would become the BOYD capital of the NBA. Between now and the trade deadline Ainge could insert the C's into as many deals as he can (either as a principal or a facilitator) to get even more picks to go with the ones he got from BKN. But he'd already have the makings of a pretty decent young team.
Olynyk/Sullinger
Ilyasova
Green

I know the Celtics are tanking but Rondo is legitimately their ONLY PG on the roster. All of their other guys are combo guards.
I think Boston stays patient until the deadline.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 3
The latest from Portland:
http://www.csnnw.com/blog/blazers-talk/ ... -scenarios
A bit more context in the video contained in the article.
The camp for Portland Trail Blazers All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge arranged a meeting with general manger Neil Olshey in a Las Vegas hotel lobby on Sunday to suggest several trade scenarios, a league source informed CSNNW.com.
According to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the situation, the meeting was described as being productive with both sides focused on doing what's best for both parties.
Aldridge, 27, has two years and roughly $30 million remaining on his current contract and I'm told Olshey is in no rush to facilitate a deal at the urging of a player's camp, especially if the organization isn't getting equal value in return.
Trading Aldridge for a collection of draft picks will not be an option.
<snip>
Aldridge told CSNNW.com that he did not request a trade and we confirmed that as being fact. However, he's not opposed to one and he has no issue with returning if that be the case, a source close to All-Star revealed to CSNNW.com.

I don't think Portland will move him. Their team has a good starting 5 and now a better bench than last year

It does look like the path the play-offs is a little easier. OKC, Spurs, Clippers, Memphis and Houston are pretty much a lock to return. Golden State looks pretty solid, but is relying on a couple bigs(Bogut, Lee) who don't have a good health history.
The Lakers and Nuggets look very vulnerable to drop out of the play-offs. Utah is tanking this season, Dallas is a bit of a wild-card.

Portland at this juncture is better than LAL, UTA, and DAL.
The Nuggets will still be in that seeds 5-7 range IMO... they have a lot of talent and Gallo will be back mid season.
