I think he's looked pretty good attacking the rim. He finished in traffic with the left hand twice, plus the hard foul he took to the face when he was going to the rim for that dunk. He had the one turnover where he was a little beyond the elbow 3 guys were around him, but pretty efficient otherwise.

15ppg is not unreasonable for him this upcoming season.

He'll only get 15ppg this season if he gets to the line 7 times or more a game. Who knows how the refs will call it, but Zeller can really sell fouls with his gymnastic-like limbs

If you guys think Zeller is going to get 15ppg with Kemba, Jefferson, and Hendo scoring at least 15 apiece and Sessions, MKG, and Taylor scoring 10 apiece, you guys are going to be very disappointed. I think he'll be closer to 11/6, which is still fairly generous. Zeller is going to struggle a bit as a rookie. Lamarcus Aldridge, for example, averaged 9/5 as a rookie.

After some games by Cody, what are you guys thinking of him now? Is he really athletic, can he dunk easily? Rebounds? Post game?

I do. I think Hendo's scoring takes a back seat "if" he re-signs. Kemba at 15, Jefferson at 17-19. MKG at 10, Session at 9. No way Taylor averages 10, more like 6-7 if that. Clifford seems to really want to showcase Jefferson and Zeller. 15 is definitely attainable considering we had one of the worst offenses and it should get better..

Did you guys see that move he did yesterday when he spinned around his man came up on the backside of the rim for the layup? He did that so smoothly that if I didn't know he was I would have sworn that he was a guard.

I know that it is early, but this kid is better than I thought he was before the Nerlens/Mclemore ascent when he was a projected number one pick! What is scary is that he is just a rookie. I don't even want to think about how good this kid actually seems to be!

man i know its early but i think i was very very very wrong about zeller. this kid moves great for a player his size and can finish with either hand. i dont see anyway he is not a beast. now if we can just work on him finishing strong at the rim, all that pump faking just dunk the damn ball.

at the absolute very least we have an athletic 7-footer who does the following things:
- runs the floor
- can make mid range jump shots
- can finish with either hand around the basket
- can initiate the offense from high post
- can defend the pick and roll
- will make hustle plays all over the floor
- high character
- high bball IQ

even if he never improves an ounce from what he is right now, the player listed above is a decent starter, high quality rotation big capable of 11/7 with lots of energy and smart plays.

High praise from another team's coach.

Outside of your own team, has anything stood out or has anyone impressed you that you've seen? Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Terry Porter: "(Charlotte Bobcats power forward Cody) Zeller stood out to me today in the game I watched. He played really well, showed a lot of skill, especially with his ability to run the floor." Oregonian

Yep. But you can also say all those things about Olynyk (well, maybe not the defend the pick and roll part) who could be had 9 picks later.

Didn't Olynyk test out as a really poor athlete, though?

Worth noting that Cody is number 3 on the rookie ladder, and is ranked the highest among LV SL competitors (Olynyk and Oladipo are 1 and 2).

http://www.nba.com/rookie-ladder/?ls=iref:nbahpt6e

"For the second straight day, Zeller put up big numbers and looked polished doing so. With a variety of baseline and top-of-the-key jumpers, the No. 4 pick finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double. Through three games, he's averaging 16.0 points and 9.3 rebounds and looks more ready to contribute than does Bismack Biyombo, who is here playing with Charlotte as well."

Man - just back from traveling - was killing me not to be able to watch SL games. Watched the replay of the Dallas game last night and - like a lot of us - really impressed with what Zeller brings to the table. Like him even more with Big Al onboard. I feel if Rex became our primary frontcourt option as a rookie, teams around the league would make his life miserable and he would struggle against focused defensive physicality - with Al on the court I think he can be very effective as a rook - takes a lot of pressure off him. Now, fingers crossed that he's not one of the many Summer League Studs that fizzle out when league play starts!

Mentioned in the Youtube thread. What's very appealing about Zellar thus far is that his skill level is very good. I like the way he sets screens, runs the floor, arc on his jumpshot, good footwork down low. Just from what I saw on the highlights I think you guys have picked another very solid choice in back to back years going forward.

I know there will be plenty of minutes to go around, but with Al Jeff starting, would Biyombo be the better fit to start and have Z come off the bench at least to start the season. That way it would soften the lack of scoring down low once Jefferson sits. Zellar and McBob off the bench a good fit?
