Contest: Trade Stuckey & Jerebko for a SG

Post#1 » by Joe Berry » Wed Jul 17, 2013 3:01 pm

Both players should be moved, SG is the biggest hole in the roster.
Stuckey is just a bad fit at SG and Jerebko is redundant with Smith, Charlie and Mitchell avaialbe for backup PF minutes.

1) Stuckey & Jerebko for Afflalo (3 years - 7,75 mil each year, last year player option) & Al Harrington (2 years -7.1 & 7.6 mil)

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kgonha2

Harringtons contract is only 50% guaranteed for the next 2 years, Pistons take on this somewhat bad contract to get their staring SG in Afflalo

2) Stuckey & Jerekbo for M. Thornton (2 years - 8 mil each) & Salmons ( 2 years- 7.5 & 7 mil)

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kgwl7d3

Salmons is only 1 mil guaranteed in 2014/15, again Pistons take on a somewhat bad contract to get a guy like Thornton

who can find a better deal?

Stuckey / CV / Jerebko

for

Joe Johnson?

Nets get future cap relief in a BIG way and fill out their bench while remaining strong at SG. They become:

Deron / Stuckey
Brooks / Terry / Stuckey
Pierce / Jerebko
KG / CV
Lopez / Evans

We become:

Knight / Billups
Johnson / KCP
Smith / Datome / Middleton
Monroe / Smith / Mitchell
Drummond / Monroe

JJ makes 21 mil next year, 23 - 2014/15 and almost 25 mil 2015/16 it would cripple any finanical flexibility the Pistons have. Its in fact one of the worst contracts in the league and JJ got a lot worse the last couple of seasons, no try again. :)

Reggie Jackson is on a very cheap rookie contract for the next two seasons on a championchip team. There is a reason why they moved Harden, because they coudnt afford to pay him without going into luxtax. He is the no.1 replacement for Harden i doubt he is available, maybe if we take on Perkins. only possibility.

Eric Gordon Games played:
08/09: 78
09/10: 62
10/11: 56
11/12: 9
12/13: 42

14-15 mil for the next 3 years is too much for this injury prone player

Reasons i like JJ:

1) He's versatile. He can play minutes at SG or SF
2) He's a good shooter
3) He's a good passer
4) We can run the O thru him
5) We'd be getting him cheap

There's no way to justify Joe Johnsons contract. It's ridiculous and it's crippling.

There's is no way in hell i would want him on the roster.

What shooting guard is making in the vicinity of 17 million per season, and in a position where his team will ship him out for little more than a couple expiring salaries?

Here's another point- the NBA's depth at the SG position is at an all time low. The vast majority of shooting guards are role players, or guys playing out of position.

The top 3 shooting guards in the NBA right now are Kobe, Harden and Wade. There's a huge drop off after those three.

love this trade.. if Joe can make this happen that'd be awesome... I'd even throw in a future 2nd just to get Afflalo.. this could help the Magic go in full tank mode

No trade the Pistons make, unless it brings a core player back who has the potential to be a major rotation player for 5 years, should interfere with the teams salary cap flexibility.

My understanding about our future cap situation is that right now, the Pistons have the flexibility to be FA players in 2014 and 2015, plus we have two great expiring contracts.

I like the team we've assembled right now. It's not perfect, and there's a lot to be worked out in terms of who gets what PT, but this group has a lot of talent. I've got no problem waiting for near perfect deals to present themselves before we start dealing. Afflalo is nice, but he's not an answer for us 5 years down the road - and he'd be blocking guys like KCP. I wouldn't go that direction.

The only way we have slightly above MLE money to spend in 2014 is if we don't max out Greg Monroe.

If we trade Greg Monroe for say, a cheaper player on a rookie contract we could then keep large amounts of cap space for next summer... Or if we trade lets say Monroe + Jonas for Rondo we could have large amounts of capspace next summer.

If not, then Monroe will be making $14 million + next year and we won't have capspace unless its just slightly above MLE in the $6-$7 million range.

Both are great trades. Too bad Joe is too proud to deal for Afflalo, who he gave away for nothing. Its pretty clear that no team in the league wants either Stuckey or Jerebko, let alone both guys

Too bad we can't amnesty Jonas. I hate that contract and I'm sure we'd have to give up an asset to turn it into an expiring. I think the Bynum & Billups signings show Joe isn't too concerned about getting into the 2014 summer.

Anyway,

Trade 1: Knight, CV31, Stuckey, Middleton, Jerebko for DeRozen, Lowry, Novak, Fields

Raptors shift into full tank mode and hit next summer with max cap room around Valencunias/Amir/Gay/Ross/Knight. Our core would be Drummond/Monroe/Smith/DeRozen/KCP/Lowry. We'd also add Novak as a shooter off the bench.

Trade 2: Stuckey, Middleton, Singler for Evan Turner, Jason Richardson

Philly dumps Richardson's deal, we take a shot on Turner.

Outside the box option:

Stuckey, Singler, Middleton, Jerebko for Jason Thompson, Chuck Hayes

Why in the world would the Nets do that? They are in win-now mode with a one or two year window. No way they trade a core player for spare parts.

I like the Afflalo Idea. He would fix our SG problem.

Billups/Knight
KCP/Afflalo

All of those guys can knock down 3's and defend. Knight would be able to dominate the ball in the second unit so he can develop at PG. If Stuckey is playing with Knight in the 2nd unit then he will be taking the ball out of Knight's hands and thus stunting his development.

As much as I'd like a more dynamic scorer, Afflalo would be a nice addition. But it would cost us more than Stuckey - it would essentially cost us from getting a significant free agent next year.

BL if we give Monroe a max contract offer than there will be no big name FA's coming next year... Best case we have $6-8 million in capspace after Monroe gets paid.

Stuckey for Dragic straight up. Phoenix has a bunch of PGs all of the sudden (Bledsoe, Dragic and Marshall) and needs a 2 guard. BK moves back to the 2 and we get a PG who can run a team and shoot. Salaries match.

I don't think dearth means what you think it means.
