Today is the last day to amnesty a player. DO IT!!!

If Joe had any interest at all in Brandon Jennings he'd amnesty CV and simply offer Jennings a 4 year $36 million contract with capspace rather than stupidly give up an assest in Brandon Knight for him. It still feels like we're making a mistake in not amnestying Knight.

We could than potentially still make a trade of Stuckey($8.5) + Jonas($4.5) + Knight($2.8) for Rudy Gay and then keep Siva and resign Maxiell to a vet's min contract and call it a season.

C:Drummond/Maxiell/Krastov
PF:Monroe/Mitchell
SF:Smith/Singler/Middleton
SG:Gay/Billups/KCP
PG:Jennings/Bynum/Siva

In reality I would expect the actual rotation to look like this...

C:Drummond(32)/Monroe(16)
PF:Monroe(20)/Smith(18)/Mitchell(10)
SF:Smith(18)/Gay(18)/Singler(12)
SG:Gay(18)/Billups(18)/KCP(12)
PG:Jennings(32)/Bynum(16)

With KCP & Mitchell getting more time as the season goes on.

That's a beyond solid 10 man rotation that should break top 4 in the east IMO.
Smith 36 MPG
Monroe 36 MPG
Gay 36 MPG
Drummond 32 MPG
Jennings 32 MPG
Billups 18 MPG
Bynum 16 MPG
KCP 12 MPG
Singler 12 MPG
Mitchell 10 MPG

WIth Maxiell and Middleton being the 11th and 12th men that play situationally and Krastov and Siva being the 13th and 14th guys on injured reserve.

paying Gay and Jennings 8 figures a year is a bad idea, both are terrible low % shooters and could effect our financial ability to retain Monroe and Drummond down the road.

Id rather have capspace available for a trade later this season than using Charlies contract for a trade but the Pistons choose Charlie.

Why?

There's essentially nobody left on the open market I want....and I doubt someone gifts us a player the caliber of Gay (or similar) just to save some cash.

We might be better off hanging onto CV and his large expiring in hoping to swing him for decent value around the deadline. CV/Stuckey for a bad contract(s) and a pick?

We have to think down the road... every move should be about building towards a ship not just a good team.
IMO CV has more value as a trade chip or salary flexibility next year.

Amnestying a player in his expiring contract season, when you already have 20 to 25 million in cap room, is lunacy.

CV and Stuckey are now each very valuable trade chips. Whenever you've got a large expiring contract, you've got the ability to trade those guys for someone valuable, but who will cost his team big $'s the following year or years.

The Pistons have added in one offseason, Smith, KCP, Mitchell, Siva, Gigi, Bynum and Billups. That's a tremendous amount of talent and athleticism added to our team. And we did that while keeping all of our good assets, including those expiring contracts. We've retained salary cap flexibility, and we've got the ability to make another very significant move or two whenever the right trade presents itself, just by using those expiring contracts, and perhaps even throwing in an asset that another team would very much want, such as Singler or Middleton, or Bynum.

Jennings is a career 39fg%, 6'1" guard who averages 5.7 assists per game in almost 35 minutes a game. Oh and the Bucks don't really seem to want him, lets not.

Villanueva shouldn't be amnestied, because he actually makes sense. Yeah he makes too much money, but I would rather see what I can get out of him at $8.5 then pay him $7 mil to ride the Spurs bench.

If anyone believes Jennings is the answer, I'm going to question your logic.

Bad shooting chuckers don't win championships.

I wish we would amnesty CV so we can sign Henderson to an offer sheet but that isn't happening.

I disagree. With big name teams saving up cap for next year, we're better off having the flexibility to make our moves through the trade market prior to the deadline if we so choose. By amnestying him, we would lose that, and only gain the ability to waste money on some of this year's scraps.

Plus, CV's ability to spread the floor and hit a corner 3 is suddenly a value add to a new roster that is sorely lacking that in our bigs. Amnestying him a season or two might have made sense, it doesn't now.

It would be idiotic to amnesty CV ( or anyone for that matter) now. We made our big splash signing this year, there is literally nobody worth bidding on, at worst I'd much rather save the $$$ for next year, either for FA or resigning Monroe. At best we can hope his shooting will make him an his expiring look desirable for a team at the trade deadline. I agree with the poster who said we need to set our sights higher than Brandon Jennings.

You can use the cap space in trades during the season and a TPE (cap space) are way more valuable than a bad player.
