The future is now. Summer league - Hawks/Blazers

Post#1 » by parson » Thu Jul 18, 2013 1:42 am

Watching the game, didn't have the computer to comment. Plus, I only saw the 2nd qtr (church). Isiah Thomas loves him some Dennis Schröder.

Anybody watching? What do y'all think? Schröder looks a bit cocky. I think he's discovering he can play with these guys.

Nogueira just missed a lob from Schröder. Looking rough.

Hey! Bebe's a pretty good weakside shot blocker. Nice block.

Cunningham's got a little passing ability, too. He just made a 30ft bounce pass - with touch - to Scott under the basket.

I think I care more about the little snippets of talent or skill the players display than I care about wins/losses.

I love Muscala's game but, man!, is he undermuscled.

Dumb play by Cunningham: we get a rebound, kick it out to him at the top of the key, he leads the fast break . . . and pulls up for a dumb jumper. Don't know what he was thinking. DAL fans said there'd be games like this. The guy is 6'5" and has a 44 inch vertical. Why not take it to the basket, especially when you're out in front?

2 impressive blocks by Nogueira, on the same play. Isiah Thomas, "He was out of position but he was able to use his length to his advantage."

Quick hands by Nogueira, resulting in a steal. Guy would make an interesting SF.

Nice pass from Scott to Muscala, who misses the tear drop from 3 feet away. Why a tear drop instead of a dunk? Nogueira misses the follow dunk on the rebound.

Cunningham with a clean free throw shot. Looks good. Schröder got nailed by the defender on a fast break but the ref got the call wrong. He pump-faked the defender, who hit him but the ref said he bumped into the defender. Isiah Thomas complaining about the call, while loving on Schröder.

Now, he's saying that CJ McCollum is being killed by Schröder.

Nogueira brings the ball down on a dunk attempt, where the little guys can grab it. And, of course, they block his dunk at chest level.

Nogueira with a 12 foot set shot. Set shot. Looked good, however.

Looking at McCollum's numbers, he actually looks - on paper - like he's having a good game but Thomas is right: he's being frustrated by Schröder. Schröder is a well-coached defender.

Isiah is killing Scott for quitting on a roll. Schröder had him open for a dunk or layup but Scott just stopped, for some reason.

Now he's bragging on how well Schröder is controlling the tempo. Isiah loving him some Schröder.

Meyers Leonard with a 3. Muscala answers with a good rebound and a nice move with english off the board.

And then, on the defensive end, Muscala gets caught playing spectator as his man takes a pass under the basket for the easy layup.

Isiah is saying he's interested in what Schröder is going to do with the last play of the game. By the way, it's tied at 67.

We line up in a 1-4, Schröder drives to the basket, forcing the defense to collapse on him; he kicks out to a wide open Jenkins, who misses the 3. Isiah getting on him for setting up at the 3pt line when he had 10 feet of open court in front of him. Isiah said he should have tried for the winning 2 instead of a 3. Oh well.

We got robbed at the end: Barton shouldered Cunningham down for the layup, then Robinson gave Scott a 2-handed shove for the rebound after we missed. After we got out to a 17 point lead, POR got every call from then on. They used that help to outscore us 23-13 in the 4th and overtime.

Thanks, PandaKidd.

We played great, then started messing around, testing different combinations, so I wasn't upset about losing the lead. Schröder DID play well. He's starting to add a good bit of swagger to his on-the-court personality. I think he's measured his competition and decided he's better. His confidence is swelling.

The bad news, however, is that, at the end, we tried to see how our guys handled end-of-game situations - and failed. Schröder fared well, penetrating on several plays - almost at will - and running good PNRs. We just failed to convert down the stretch. Jenkins and Scott, for the most part, got really good looks but missed a handful of times.

I just wish y'all could have heard Isiah Thomas' love affair with Schröder.

Not a love affair when a HoF PG sees that a young PG can do anything he wants out there and he basically is seeing the game thru Schröder's eyes and Schröder is making the plays Zeke or other great PG's make.

He sees the vision, the tenacity, he sees the competitor, even the "ego" this kid is showing oncourt at the age of 19 who is doing this against good level competition.

McCallum was touted as Damian Lillard-lite and forced him into some tough shots though CJ got around him, believe me it was a chore doing it.

After SL when they get a weight regimen for Dennis...look out.

Good night, all. I leave with a couple of tweets. The first from Kevin Pelton:
Kevin Pelton ‏@kpelton

Maybe there is someone in Las Vegas who has not yet fallen in love with Dennis Schroeder's game. I have yet to meet them.

The 2nd is to prove I'm not the only one hearing a love affair between Isiah Thomas and Dennis Schröder. This is from Jason Walker:
Jason Walker ‏@JasonWalkerSBN 2h

NBATV has become SchröderTV. Isiah wrote a sonnet for him during the halftime break.
