Smith/Dre and Moose will be playing Together.

Post#1 » by jaredtyshaf » Thu Jul 18, 2013 2:06 am

Dre and Moose are not riding the pine so Smith can play PF and Smith isn't sitting after being paid 54mil. They are ALL going to start and none of them are going to be benched 4min into the 1st Quarter.

Like it or not we are going to see a line-up of...

PG: Billups
SG: Knight
SF: Smith
PF: Monroe
C: Dre

A LOT, like 24+ mpg.

I think most of us realize this but I'm not exactly sure how much time they will all be playing together. I expect them to start and close for both halves though.

Agreed. I see then playing the first 6min and last 6min of each half together making them play at least 24mpg together. I also see Chauncey and Knight playing those 6min stints with them as well.

We will still see Smith at PF and Moose at C, but it won't be for anything over 12-15mpg.

The only hitch in my logic is if we have to sit Dre at the end of games due to FTs.

I hope Knight doesn't start at SG for very long. Would rather just have him back up Chauncey, and limit Chauncey to under 25 mins with Singler/Stuckey starting for 15-20 games before eventually moving KCP to the starting lineup if he's ready.

This has been a foregone conclusion since the minute I heard Smith was signing.
I'm more concerned about the backcourt than the frontcourt.

i dont like the idea of billups being our starting PG at all. just because he was good for us a decade ago doesnt mean he can just come back and command the starting PG spot from knight in a rebuilding team. i think he should come of the bench or play off the ball as a SG

Honestly Smith will be playing a lot of PF and Monroe will be playing center.

I would expect Drummond to be the first guy out 6-8 minutes after the game starts and then for the rest of the quarter Monroe and Smith will play PF/C. Then Drummond could return for Monroe and play with Smith for a while to start the 2nd quarter before Monroe returns for Smith. There are 96 minutes total to be played at the PF and C positions and Smith, Monroe, and Drummond should play most of those minutes with one backup big (Mitchell, Jonas or CV) getting a few added in.

Drummond will probably then come back in to start the 2nd quarter giving Monroe a break.... Smith has played big minutes in his past, and Mo Cheeks has had a history of playing guys big minutes. He played Andre Iguodala 39.5 MPG his last full season in Philly which was good for 6th in the NBA. He played him over 40 MPG the year before that.

Josh Smith could be getting very heavy minutes at the SF and PF spots for us because he is so much better than our backup options (CV, Jonas, Singler).

Not only do I hope all 3 play together, I'm counting on it. The only way this team goes anywhere is if we become the best defensive tea, in the league again.

This is gonna sound crazy but: how often we see Drummond, Monroe and Smith play together depends on DNP-CV

You simply can't play Drummond, Monroe and CV together... at all!

IF CV is going to play 15 minutes he'll do it at PF... and hopefully Drummond at C... cause Monroe and CV on the floor at the same time is asking for trouble!

IF we're playing CV with Drummond you could play Smith at SF...cause if you play Drummond, CV, Singler (or Middleton or Datome) we're asking for trouble on the defensive end

I really hope that trend continues. Our guys are young and can handle big minutes. I was so sick of looking at the boxscore last year and routinely seeing our key guys playing just over 30min. That was one thing that really annoyed me about Frank. Guys like Monroe and Smith should be getting around 36+min every single night.

Usually its harder on the bigs... so I would like to see Drummond at 30-34 MPG... Monroe at 32-36 MPG and Smith at 36-40 MPG....

Most of the time the top guys in MPG are guards and wings... PFs and Cs are less common to play 38+ MPG.

I don't know if Drummond's conditioning is at the level it needs to be for him to play 34 minutes per game.

I'm hoping for a steady increase in minutes throughout the season though...

I don't agree that we will see Knight as starting SG. I'd prefer him as first guard off the bench to give Chauncey a breather. KCP hopefully will earn starting SG.

We have enough talent to win a majority of games and make the playoffs, so i'd like to see a 10-12 deep lineup during the regular season... Nobody should be playing 40 minutes, especially if your game is predicated on defense, transition buckets, and bigs that play hard.

As the defense and transition game breaks open with Drummond/Smith/KCP (who I think should start with Billups), Pistons should have a lead and be able to give some of the younger guys time. They need to help these guys get better, or establish trade value:

Datome
T. Mitchell
Knight
Jerebko
Singler
Stuckey
Kravtsov
Middleton

Once playoffs start of course the lineup should be shortened.

Billups/Stuckey
KCP/Knight
Smith/Datome
Monroe/Smith
Drummond/Monroe
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

I honestly don't think this trio will spend a lot of time on the court all together.

They will likely start games together, and then start the 2nd halves together....but I don't see them playing much more than that all together.

Beyond that - Smith will backup Monroe at PF (where I think he, Smith, gets a majority of his minutes), and Monroe will backup Drummond at C.

I think the trio starts and finishes games together but I think Smith /Monroe will be the 4/5 combo used most. I think Drummond will see a lot of time on the court alongside Charlie V.

I doubt this trio finishes games all together as neither Dre nor Smith can't hit FTs consistently.

Doesn't matter, Joe has talked a lot about putting your 5 best players on the court together regardless of fit of position

CV's playing time very possibly depends on how well Datome plays. If we get great 3 point shooting out of him, we don't need CV that much.

Although, it would be intesting to have 4 great 3pt shooters in the lineup at the same time. (4 of 5 of Knight, Billups, KCP, Datome and CV)
