SUNS will be worst team in the NBA 2013-14

Post#1 » by Amen316 » Thu Jul 18, 2013 12:49 am

I was at the Summer League listening to different odds-makers talk and they are going to place the Phoenix Suns as the most dysfunctional and worst run teams in league for 2013-14(mostly based on past decisions). They are going to set the odds the highest for winning the championship at 200-1 or worse.

Not trying to bash the Suns because there is no reason or unrealistic expectations except from the local media. This is a 20-24 win team and if you can swallow that now everything else will be gravy.

I am glad Ryan took over now and hope he builds this team smart and doesnt succumb to pressures of media to keep spending on fillers with bad contracts. trying to pick up Mike miller and his contract would be dumb he is washed up and Goodwin will become a stud at some point

I would like to see a rebirth of the late 80s suns its just not this year

Awesome...,here comes wiggins!

But thanks for the insightful input. Learned a lot. Like how you listen to people. And how trying to pick up mike miller would be dumb. How the vegas odds are against the suns to win a championship....REALLY...ya think?, Oh and lastly... You are a few cans short of a six pack.

Ps. All of us Suns fans know the suns are going to suck but we are heading in the right direction and will more then likely Have a great shot at wiggins.

Btw....and i quote Steve Martin......."When you're telling these little stories, here's a good idea: have a point. It makes it so much more interesting for the listener!"

1. Its a not far fetch at all to say Suns are a bad team entering 2013-2014....

2. Yes, definitely agree that the FO and Sarver sacrificed 2-3 years of rebuild by hanging on to Nash, Hill and trying to reload.
Love Nash and Hill, but Suns over valued their presense, especially drafting players to suit Nash (Earl Clark, Markieff Morris etc). Trading for Gortat was good... but was a move to contend with 8th/9th seed...

Again, at the time, Suns FO felt that they were a playoff team.... fortunately the decision maker of that Suns FO.. Blanks... is not there anymore... and the GM is now committed to a long term plan as opposed to 2-3 years.

I agree. Last year we were a 25 win team.

Gains
Blanks gone
Gentry gone
Hunter gone
Beasley on a short leash
Wes Johnson gone
Telfair gone
Eric Bledsoe acquisition
Caron Butler acquisition
Archie Goodwin drafted
Alex Len drafted
Reduced from two unathletic starters (Dudley and Scola) to one
Healthy Gortat back in the lineup (missed 1/4 of season)
New head coach that will have the players' respect
New defensive assistant coach from Boston
Uber athletic team with big wingspans will be bring a whole new level of defense not seen before in Phoenix
New GM who is making great moves

Losses
Dudley gone
O'Neal (although injured for 1/4 of season) gone

I think a lot of people will be surprised by the Suns this year.

Its obvious that the odds are stacked against us doing anything this season but that's fine (and it's practically a given that we'll lose tons of games). We've got to focus on developing our players - that should be the priority since there's no use focusing on draft position if we suck (and it looks like we will) because the lottery pick will take care of itself.

I really hope this group of Dragic/Bledsoe/Goodwin/Len will work out for us because they're all good character guys that can play and are athletic as well. Maybe the Morris Twins can become real contributors for the team as well.

We may not be even the worst team in the West, let alone the league.

Not saying we are good and/or a playoff team, but we shouldn't be taking any steps back, might get a few more wins and battle with the Jazz/Kings at the bottom half of the West

In the entire league...
Bottom 10 teams in 2013 that gotten better than the Suns.
- Cavs
- Bobcats (maybe same level as Suns)
- Magic (they have a fixed starting 5, minus Nelson)
- Celtics (still have Rondo, Bradley, Sullinger, Green)
- Bucks (Got Mayo, Maybe same level as Suns)
- Pelicans (eying playoffs)
- Kings (have a player to spread defense)

Teams that got worse than the Suns
- 76ers

Suns improved from 2013... But teams below them got better too....

Gortat also still to be determined where he will go...or if he will go.

Just field a team full of young players and trade away the vets... That's what I would do.
Goodwin, Len, Markieff, Bledsoe, Dragic.. Trade the rest!!

Too good to be true. My money's on Philly, they have like two good players and that's being generous.

Hate to play Capt. Obvious again, but the Suns are going to be the worst team ONLY if they tank on purpose and sit on their hands all season long. If they decide to play real basketball and put their hearts in it, they are a playoff team. It's that simple!

Hopefully OP is true. But I don't see it. Especially if we're holding on to Gortat til the trade deadline. Him and Scola are the type of guys who don't quit, unfortunately :(

I can't tell if you're serious. There's no way the Suns make the playoffs this year. We barely made any changes from last year so far, and we were terribad then. Adding Bledsoe isn't going to give us 30 more wins.

Well, last year the only place the team put real effort was in purposely losing games that were won. The change you're looking for is not in the roster, but in the will to play basketball.
Sadly, the NBA these days is more about losing games than winning some and the worst part is that most of the fans believe in that as well.

It seemed like the only time the team actually attempted to tank was towards the end of the season when Dragic was benched for a few games. Up until then it looked like the team was actually trying to win.

I'm actively against tanking. I don't want us to win a load of games and then get stuck at the 10-14 draft range, but I think purposely throwing games is a bit dumb, especially when we're trying to raise all the young talent on the team. Saying that though, I think even if the team plays at their best, they'll still finish in the worst 5.

Never tell any of the players to lose games purposefully.

Do overplay young/worse players to accelerate their development while stackin up on the L's, allow key players rest for mysterious injuries, give vets the day off on B2Bs.

It is an art

Guys, I'm desperately trying to grasp your logic, but just can't. So, you're telling me that the plan is to get college players, teach them how to finish last in the league for 3-4 years (or in other words - how to be losers) so the team can get more high picks, and out of the blue the good fairy will snap fingers and these guys, who can't play basketball (because you can't develop players by making them loose games) will win a championship just because they are "young and talented"?
