He has played well at times. However, his shooting % leaves me a bit concerned

I think coming off the bench will help him too. Starting at the 4 here on a crappy Charlotte team I think he tried to just get his at times.

Another big so Ryan is not the first big off the bench. He also can step out and hit 3's, good move.

Re: Clippers nearing agreement with Byron Mullens
He's basically 7'1 and 275lbs. Bad shooting percentages and not known for his defense. 37% of his field goal attempts are 3's (31.7% from 3) and 20% of his attempts are in the 16-23 ft range (where he shoots 31.5%). A goal of this team has been to add a big that can spread the floor. He won't be able to chuck nearly as much here as in Charlotte. He's going to have to be more efficient to be useful. Hopefully he'll be working on his shot all summer.

Can I just get one enforcer on the squad?
One ignorant goon that doesn't know anything but the phrase "protect teammate"
I like the pickup here though.

I went to several Cats games this yr living in Charlotte. I think he chucked a lot just to get his since the team sucked.
Hopefully being on a contender he will be smarter in that respect.
I'm happy to have him in LA

Get Odom or Camby next and call it an offseason. A great one at that.

Good pick up, he'll get a lot less attempts and a lot more catch and shoot open shots...still needs work but he's young so it's Al good

I think Odom is a better option than Camby
Also, I still think the Clips should continue to shop Jordan to see what they can get. In another thread somebody mentioned Nene. I think that would be a good trade. Wizards might actually be interested considering Nene's age

I'm not really sure I'd like that trade. Nene right now is a much better player than DJ and much more of a sure thing, but as this offseason progresses, I'm curious to see how DJ improves. As everyones noticed, Doc has a lot of confidence in him and I believe that DJ at this point feels that he has a lot to prove. He could easily become a Tyson Chandler type player for us and be that defensive anchor that the Mavs had for their championship run. Right now I feel like he's having a Chandler like career. All that he does is because of talent and not skill. Once he starts to develop, I feel like he can become what Chandler became once he went to New Orleans.
I do agree with you about Odom being better than Camby. If I knew that Camby would be healthy for a majority of the season and the playoffs, I'd be on his side, but I know that won't happen. I like this Mullens addition since he's a young guy who still has some potential considering he was the number 1 prospect out of HS, but we need a bruiser down low. We need a guy that will go in the post, get rebounds and play great low post defense. I wish we still had Reggie Evans cause he is EXACTLY what this team needs right now.

I was thinking along the lines of a big that could be a defensive mentor for DJ (Camby). But yeah, as you said, Lamar brings a lot more to our roster.
Hmm... Trading DJ would actually be an interesting premise but I think we should see what Doc can do for him first and trade him if it doesn't pan out before the trade deadline.

Really needs to work on his shot because he isn't even a good open shooter, and also really needs to improve on defense. He might be one of the league's worst big men defenders, and I'm not exaggerating, it's a combination of poor awareness and seeming lack of intensity defensively from what I've seen of him.
Like I said on the general board, if he's replacing a Summers/Thompkins and is a let's try it out and see type of signing, what's the harm? His contracts are probably partially guaranteed, if he can improve his shooting, he becomes more useful on offense, and if you can either hide him or get him to commit to defense, maybe he can be not terrible there, even just going up to below average would be survivable.
About Nene, he would be nice, but health is an issue, and I'm assuming this is a Jordan trade, so Okafor and DJ in the front-court probably doesn't make sense for Washington, especially since they are also trying to acquire a floor spacing 4 man.

Re: Clippers nearing agreement with Byron Mullens
Bobcats fan here. Mullens is talented, but between the ears he might be the dumbest player in the league, literally. He has all the tools to be a legit starter in the league, but damn is he stupid. His shot selection is dumb, he doesn't rebound that well, and he will have enough games to keep you saying "oh man, hes getting it" to only eventually say "this guy is stupid". He will jack up shots constantly without looking for others.
That being said I think it is an extremely solid pickup for you guys. If he had any kind of basketball IQ at all he would be pretty good.
Edit: He wasn't the #1 player coming out of highschool for no reason... Clippers are my second favorite team. Hope it works out for not only him, but you guys as well. Good luck.

If the Clips have to play Memphis or another team with tough big men, I'd much rather have Nene than Jordan. Nene has skills and is very strong. I think Jordan may eventually develop into a Chandler like player, but I've started to lose some patience with Jordan. The time for the Clippers is now- this is CP3's prime. Nene is 30- so he has some good seasons left hopefully. If this trade came up, the Clippers would have to take it in my opinion.

Re: Clippers nearing agreement with Byron Mullens
Expect bricks, lots and lots of bricks.
Mullens has tons of potential, but I think he needs a few pushes in the right direction to realize that potential. He dropped 25/18 against Boston last year (on a very bad ankle nonetheless) and 31/14 against Milwaukee the year before, so he can get really hot (sometimes for days and even a couple weeks at a time) and string a bunch of really good games together to make everyone nuts over him but then he'll inevitably drift off and average 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 blown defensive possessions per game over the next few weeks.
Mullens' main problem last season was Mike Dunlap, in my opinion. He helped guys like Henderson, Walker, and even Mullens and Tyrus Thomas stretch out their shooting range last season. Mullens is proficient from mid-range, but Dunlap insisted that all the mid-range shots become 3s. Mullens was okay from three point range, but shot far too many and did so pretty mindlessly. Dunlap didn't really seem to push defense much either, so Mullens' defensive woes just got worse.
Mullens is highly athletic and is enormous, so one would hope he would just park his ass in the paint and occasionally drift out towards the perimeter to take a shot or two from outside every now and then. Doc is smart, he'll realize that.
I think the Clippers are the perfect place for him. He's really just another rotation big at this point in terms of production (he is a decent rebounder and can score in the paint, just didn't do it a whole lot) but Chris Paul can help him realize his potential.
Also keep an eye on his ankle. It bothered him for like four months last season after spraining it pretty badly right around Christmas. He sat for a month, came back, got super hot for a 5-6 game stretch and then tapered off into a 2-month slump that tanked his market value and his numbers.

Re: Clippers nearing agreement with Byron Mullens
A main reason for Doc and Paul is to give that push for potential.
