Jason Maxiell

Post#1 » by Go Magic » Thu Jul 18, 2013 4:02 pm

So Im seeing a lot of reports that we are planning on signing Maxiell. I think it would be a great fit next to Vooch and maybe even a solid contributor in the future. What's everyone think of Jason filling out the roster?

He is 30 now, but he has averaged 19mpg 6.1ppg 4.4 rpg over his career. He is a great hustle guy but does he hurt our chances of tanking this year? Would a youngster be a better idea?

is it really "a lot" of reports? isn't it just the pistons beat writer who replied to a tweet saying he "thinks" he'll wind up in Orlando? That was a few days ago and there's been nothing since....

I'd be alright signing him to a minimum deal. He'd be a good locker room guy and actually has some talent, he could def take Kyle O'Quinn and Osby under his wing. Though I'd much prefer to sign a legit 7 footer to back up Vucevic. I'd like for us to offer Cole Aldrich, Aaron Gray or Timofey Mozgov a contract. Those guys address more of a need than Maxiell.

He showed serious promise as a very good complementary piece as a young dude but then seriously declined as he hit his prime. His usage never really changed either. If we can get him back to being uber efficient he'll be a great support piece, as he brings rebounding and toughness to the table right away.

If Jason Maxiell is the answer, I really do not know the question.

Should Orlando ink an over weight SF to loose more games?

Should Orlando ink a career 6 ppg player to loose more games?

I really do not know what to be excited about here.

Anything more then vet minimum would be idiotic. Second probably team option as well.

Anyone else get the feeling this was done to bring a vet in to influence Nicholson? Nicholson has the offensive skillet but doesn't have any tenacity on defense. Maxiell definitely does, maybe the plan is for Maxiell to try and bring that out in Nicholson.

Man, Henny really knows how to make me smile.

During the anti-Noel debates, I was a big proponent for bringing in an affordable vet that could provide a complimentary defensive presence and add toughness to our team. A keen move by Henny to make sure we don't develop a SOFT label in the post. Maxiell brings championship experience and won't command a lot of playing time. Can play PF or C. Great signing to fill out the roster depth.

Maxiell's never won a title, he was drafted by the Pistons in 2005.

Maxiell is a tough nosed defender who plays good team ball. He is smart and is usually in great position. He can be the solid complement to Vucevic on the court as he sets good picks and boxes out for others to grab the rebounds. Thus, he isn't a big stat man. I seen him play play 30 minutes and get only 8pts, 5rbds and a couple blocks. But, his worth is not shown on stat sheets. He is really good value at $2.5 mil for his 10-20 mpg contribution on the defensive end alone. He ain't no BBD, but he is Mad Max who gave Dwight trouble for years. He can play both PF and Center, but is a PF in size.

I think its a good pick up, we could always use a tough defender like him
