If Trout and Lara is on the under card as well, I'm definitely buying this PPV and hosting it at my house.

That's three main events on one PPV. Trout VS. Lara would have headlined a late night Saturday Showtime card. Same goes for Lucas and Garcia.

Garcia wasn't getting pressure to fight him before 5/18 and Schaefer says right after the Peterson KO that the fights getting made and every report after said it was close(the Judah rematch was the same as Mayweather/Devon rumors, bs imo). Danny probably was just holding out for more money which is understandable since Lucas is a big risk and Garcia already has sizable drawing power in Brooklyn. The perception of Garcia ducking is pure Matthysse hype imo.

You even a troll on the boxing board... but kudos for not using the word glass somewhere in there.

Seriously.

It's pretty obvious that Garcia didn't really want this fight. Matthysse already signed the contract that Garcia's team put forth nearly a month ago. It was Garcia himself that was delaying the fight from being made and it had nothing to do with him wanting more money because Lucas agreed to every single one of his terms. If you look at Garcia's twitter feed, he was making all kinds of lame excuses as to why he didn't feel the need to fight Matthysse. It got so bad that he was basically being mocked by the majority of all the big names that cover the sport. This was a face saving move on his part. You'd have to be a bit obtuse not to see that. That being said, at least he finally manned up and took the fight. It's good for the sport and the fans.

It's because Lucas's power is that scary. If you look at the contrasting styles, it really favors Matthysse. Garcia leaves himself open to get hit and can be countered if he tries to land those overhead looping hooks. If Lucas pops him, in all likelihood he's going down.

Victor Ortiz will have a fight in September, according to GB. An announcement on who his opponent will be and when will be made in the next few days. It isn't sure if he'll be included in the Mayweather/Canelo card but I'd bet that he will be.

It was a fun 10th round... Bey was controling him and going at him... but one shot changed the entire fight. Molina let it all out and got the TKO. The thing is that.... only in boxing can you honestly change the tide in an instant from sure defeat to sudden victory.

who in their right mind would take on RP? ^^^ his last fight was lunacy. nevermind a guy coming straight off of two incredible bangers. Alvarado going for Gatti status.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

You gotta respect him for it too. I think Alvarado pulls it off in another war.

Are any of you guys following all the Bradley/Marquez situation? Bradley is threatening to pull out of the fight if USADA or VADA isn't involved. According to Tim, having USADA/VADA run the tests was stated in his contract. Marquez will only agree to do it if Bradley agrees to a 10 pound rehydration clause. On top of that Arum is trying to pull a fast one by having the NSAC run the testing instead. Something fishy is going on and it looks really bad on Marquez's part.

Wasn't the testing for pac/jmm loose as well ?

Looks like the difference is Bradley knows he clean so he can press the issue.

Marquez asked for testing for the 4th fight and Emmanuel turned it down.

What type of testing though?

I love jmm but its the arod vibe. You're working with a dude thats been popped for roids. It breeds suspicion.

Well I think we should all reflect on Emile Griffith...and say RIP.

I am not sure if you know the whole story but it was widely known but not acknowledged that Griffith was gay, but prior to the Benny Paret really said some things that weren't ever dared to be said to someone else. One of those things was the word "Maricon" which is basically the worst spanish insult you can give to someone who is gay. Griffith for all intents and purposes was a good guy and not this massive puncher but the ref really blew it because Griffith unloaded on him it seemed like 30 shots in a row before Paret fell down to the floor.

http://www.badlefthook.com/2013/7/24/45 ... ace-gloves

He's a 5-6 time world champion across 3 weight divisions: thrice at welterweight, once at junior middleweight, and twice at middleweight. The junior middleweight title wasn't universally recognized but I don't see how it's any worse than a WBO title today, not to mention a WBA "regular" title.
All of his welterweight and middleweight title reigns, in golden eras for each division, were undisputed.
He defeated at least 8 Hall of Famers.
WBHF: Gaspar Ortega, Denny Moyer, Ralph Dupas, Joey Archer, Bennie Briscoe
IBHOF & WBHF: Luis Manuel Rodriguez, Dick Tiger, Nino Benvenuti
He defeated 6-7 world champions: Denny Moyer, Luis Manuel Rodriguez, Benny Kid Paret, Ralph Dupas, *Don Fullmer, Dick Tiger, and Nino Benvenuti. It's hard to take the claim of Fullmer's super middleweight (then called junior light heavyweight) world title seriously. None of the big 3 (WBA/WBC/IBF) recognized the division until 1984. Nonetheless 6 world champions is plenty in this era. Given all the titles floating around now, I'd say multiply by 2-3 for a modern comparison.
He was only stopped twice in 112 bouts over 19 years (against a few dozen top 10 rated opponents, many multiple times, but I'm not counting). Those who pulled it off were power punching middleweights, both legends in their own right. One was great (Carlos Monzon) and the other was famous enough to get Denzel Washington to play him in a movie (Rubin Carter). Carter caught Griffith relatively cold in the 1st round while Monzon broke down an aging Griffith over 14. Ironically both men wound up in prison (one sentenced more justifiably than the other to say the least).
Most of Emile's best accomplishments came after he killed a man (which forever changes a fighter, and not for the better). That man, Benny Kid Paret, was a 2 time world welterweight champion. I recommend the documentary "Ring of Fire" for anyone that would like to learn more about the events and people surrounding that tragedy. It was the first televised ring fatality in a championship bout and it was replayed over and over again. Subsequently TV networks mostly turned their back to boxing for about a decade.
He was well known to make improvements in rematches. He bested Luis Manuel Rodriguez in a quadrilogy (although all bouts were debatable). He bested Denny Moyer, Jorge Jose Fernandez, Benny Kid Paret, and Manuel Gonzalez in trilogies. He actually won each fight against Fernandez but improved from unpopular split decision, to unanimous decision, to a technical knockout. He won double meetings with Gaspar Ortega, SD10 to TKO12, Ralph Dupas, UD15 to KO3, Dick Tiger, close UD15 to wide UD10, Joey Archer, MD15 to UD15, Andy Heilman, MD12 to UD10, and Joe DeNucci, close SD10 to wide SD12. The result of the 2nd DeNucci fight sounds weird but 2 of the 3 judges that voted for Griffith had it a shutout... Griffith additionally did much better in rematches with Stanley "Kitten" Hayward and Carlos Monzon.
He gave Luis Manuel Rodriguez (35-0), Gypsy Joe Harris (24-0), Tom Bogs (53-0-1), Armando Muniz (16-0-1), and Renato Garcia (24-0) their first pro career defeats.
He fought 4 of what I consider to be Cuba's 10 best pro fighters and beat 3 of them. The one he never beat (Jose Napoles) caught him past his prime and weight drained.
He was arguably the best fighter of the entire 1960s, period. You can argue him over the only man to go 1-0 against him during the decade (Jose Napoles). You can obviously argue him over all the great fighters he beat (most notably Dick Tiger, Luis Manuel Rodriguez, and Nino Benvenuti). And you can argue him over the likes of those outside of his weight classes (Eder Jofre, Fighting Harada, Carlos Ortiz and more). You can even argue him over Muhammad Ali (who lacked a great resume in the 60s). Those are ALL great fighters. Yet as far as the 1960s went, Griffith was arguably the best. Now that's what I call an all-time great.

Extra Accomplishments:

1964 RING Fighter of the Year
Involved in the 1967 RING Fight of the Year
Inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame (WBHF) in 1985
Inducted into the inaugural 1990 class of the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF)

There's never been strict drug testing in any of Pac's fights. I love the guy and all, but he opened himself up for criticism and suspicion when he turned down Floyd's request for Olympic style drug testing the first time around.

Now, JMM is in the same position. Except in his case, people have more reason to be suspicious of him doping.

I don't know why he's even attempting it. He looked absolutely horrible trying to use it in his fight against Guerrero.

Good article about the unfair criticism of Swift Garcia
Nothing cowardly about Danny Garcia-Lucas Matthysse matchup

Schaefer, who is traveling on business in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, said via email he couldn't remember which of the two agreed first.

But Schaefer insisted there was never a hang-up from the fighters and that both fighters were on board with the bout from the time it was first presented.

"I really don't know who accepted first, [but] the fact is that both fighters NEVER had ANY issue with fighting each other," Schaefer said via email. "As I had stated during the conference call both guys wanted each other! The only reason why it did take a while to get the fight announced was to find ways to come up with the money to put this great matchup on Sept. 14. We had asked both fighters to stay quiet during that time, which I think was difficult for them because both were (and still are) SUPER EXCITED to fight each other!"

Of course Schaefer is going to say that. What else did you expect him to say? It's laughable that he doesn't remember which one of the two agreed to the fight first. He's a promoter. Its his job to know these things.

Anyway, all the criticism of Garcia being a coward is pretty moot now. He finally agreed to the fight and that's all that matters.

I'm not impressed with Shiming. The problem is that despite his amateur and Olympic pedigree, he's a 31 year old rookie. He only has a limited amount of time(prime years) to get acclimated to the pros before he starts fighting legit competition. From what I've seen thus far, he really doesn't have the skill set to become a good fighter. He swings very wildly, opens himself up to get hit way too easily, and lacks power. While his style can potentially be entertaining, I just don't see him making it very far as a professional.

Arum is smart though. He'll make as much money as he can off him due to his popularity in China, and continue to throw tomato cans in his direction.

Some damn good fights on Showtime tonight.

Good win for Thurman over Chavez.

And this Figueroa/Arakawa brawl is simply awesome. Reminds me of Rios/Alvarado but at a lighter division.
