POLL: What would you like the starting backcourt to be?

Post#1 » by dan2314 » Fri Jul 19, 2013 1:23 pm

I personally would like to stick with Knight and KCP and let them develop. If KCP isnt ready, which i think he will, then billups and knight could work to start the season until he is, but id rather chauncey just plays 15-20 mins off the bench.
In the press conference chauncey did speak like he was going to get big minutes at PG, which makes me think the plan is for him to start. If he was to, would it be better to keep it with KCP at 2, and let knight learn off the bench, or is knight getting pushed to play the 2 for some odd reason

i voted Billips and knight. i think we'll start the season like that and hopefully KCP and Knight show enough to earn those starting positions by the end of the season.

I'd like it to be that too. I wouldn't trust KCP with a starting spot until he proves himself in real NBA games.

I'd like to see a rotation of...

Billips / Stuckey
Knight / KCP

I voted Knight and KCP. Ideally I would like Billups starting, but I question how much he has in the tank, to be playing heavy minutes every game. I'd rather keep him healthy and get some consistent minutes from him for the entire season. We'll need his experience when we make the playoffs :D

Maybe start Billups Knight at first, then as KCP gets some experience, replace Billups so he can stay fresh.

I wouldn't want anyone out there to be given anything... I feel like they should pretty much go into camp letting everyone know the backcourt starting positions are up for grabs. Thing is we have about 6 guards all of which aren't much better than the rest. Let them all come out and play for a spot I don't want to just give the PG spot to Knight because he's young and same with KCP... Give it to whoever is going to be best for the team wether that's Bynum and Stuckey or whoever.

A motivated Stuckey playing for a contract could come in focused and work his ass off and look the best we've ever seen him... Billups may have very little left in the tank we won't know until we get into training camp and preseason.

I want Billups/Knight to play together. I want Billups helping Knight on and off the court as much as possible. If we go with Stuckey/Bynum - KCP combos that will allow Billups to coach Knight up as they are both sitting. This year is all about seeing if we can turn Knight into what's needed a PG. Give him every resource and attention possible. If it works we'll likely see plenty of Knight/KCP minutes in the future.

KCP can earn it. He's has the ideal size and shooting we need out of the 2. Knight has had 2 years and he's undersized. KCP will win that spot, my pre-season prediction.

Best case scenario is that Knight and KCP both go out and work hard and earn it over guys like Billups and Stuckey I'm just not so sure that will happen.

I really doubt Stuck will settle for or be happy with playing 16-18 MPG off the bench in a contract year... He's made $30 million in his career but if he had a good year this year he could potentially make another $25 million by landing a full MLE deal with someone for 4 years... If he doesn't come out motivated with all he's got he's literally throwing 10s of millions of dollars away.

I said Billups/Pope. IMO:

1) BK7 would be better served to watch CB1 from the bench to start the game (vs. trying to learn PG while playing SG).
2) Pope has the length and athleticism to pick up the defensive slack to make up for the slow-footed CB1 on the perimeter
3) CB1 is the leader and calming presence that the youngsters (AD0 and Pope) would benefit from to start the game.

Since I don't see a Jennings/Knight starting back-court option :nonono: , I'm going with Billups/Knight...I think KCP will be our future 6th man...I see a defensive Jamal Crawford when I watch KCP play...Knight will be our future Joe Dumars at the 2/1 position...

KCP isn't starting until Billups goes down with an injury. And even if that happens, he still has to beat Stuckey.

except KCP can defend.. i have thought about that before though.. is that offensive threat that can be a lethal 6th man. thing is that he plays both sides and that sort of player needs to be out on the floor as much as possible. startings the best option imo.

Yeah, KCP definitely has good defensive potential...He needs to work on his ball handling, strength, and ability to drive to the paint though...It seems like Dumars wants a back-court with 2 ball handlers and a 6th man who can flat out shot...KCP fits that "flat out shot" profile...If we give KCP 28mpg I think we'll see a strong 14-16ppg from him...

I think we should roll with BK/KCP. it would be great if Chauncey could give us 30+ quality minutes a night, but I don't see it happening.

he's never been a guy who was overly reliant on his athleticism, so I guess its possible, but its probably not something we should be counting on.

I voted Billups/KCP. I know I'm in the minority, but I really do believe that Chauncey still has a decent amount left in the tank. Defensively he probably won't be anything more than average (if that), but with Smith and Drummond on the court his defense shouldn't be that much of a problem. I'd also be fine if we ran a Billups/Knight backcourt, but I think that bringing Knight off the bench would work the best. KCP should be able to defend opposing SGs pretty well. His and Billups' shooting should work well with Smith/Monroe/Drummond frontcourt. I just think it's the best possible lineup.

Can you add a Chris Paul/James Harden option please, that would be the starting backcourt i'd like to see starting for us. All current options make me want to vomit to be honest.
